Let's be honest.
The destiny community does not take DOT too kindly which is why I think DOT on weapons in PvP shouldn't be a thing.
However in PvE, it would add an unerring advantage if applied to weapons.
The best way to re introduce DOT in destiny is this.
Race specific DOT perks that stack like thorn, but of course do more damage since thorn is still y1.
Cabal Poisoner: "The cabal will take poison damage for a small amount of time"
Fallen toxicant: "The fallen will take poison damage for a small amount of time"
Worms bane: "The hive will take poison damage for a small amount of time"
This would create a more varied load out since they could be stronger for certain situations.

Why? Only bosses and certain high level majors and ultras really have enough HP to make DoTs even worth it. DoT in general are unnecessary in this game and the best use I've ever found for burn even, is keeping Crota's shield from regenerating long enough to shoot him in the face with a rocket after a grenade.
