Why we call people of dark complexion in the USA "African American"? They are the only race that have this. White people are called white/American. Hispanic people are called hispanic/latino/Americans. And etc.
-Were you born in Africa?
-Is anyone in the recent generations of your family from Africa?
-Do you have family still living in Africa?
No? Then guess what, you are American. There is nothing "African" about you. The title serves to further divide the American population along racial lines.
We are Americans, who happen to be white, black, hispanic, asian, etc.
Race does not define who we are. Stop with that shit PC culture.
Sincerely,
An Italian/French American

You're right, they should just be called humans, but some people are incapable of thinking that skin pigmentation shouldn't make us different.
-
Who cares? I mean seriously. The "Anti-PC" movement is just as stupid and frivolous as the PC one. Both of them boil down to "boohoo I don't like how this aspect of societal interaction works"
-
Haha you're great man
-
People from Haiti were originally from Africa.
-
If you're born in the US. You're a US citizen. Just because my parents were born in Germany doesn't make me german-american. Because I unlike my parents was born in the US. That applies to all people regardless of race or color born here.
-
Hahaha hahaha. I just got un banned. Maney next time.
-
Because saying "black" or "American" is racist.
-
If we get rid of "African" American they will says its racist. That we would be denying their heritage or some other bs
-
race does not define who we are
Then why make this thread about race?

Asian American is said pretty frequently too though, and Native American(You're racist so you only ever notice African American).

Back in the 30's and 40's the darkies accepted the word Negro. It was the proper term just as white for a Caucasian. What went wrong?
-
I'm from the United states, so I'm a statesian. Anyone who is from the North, Central, Or South American regions is American. If you're from the United States then you're a statesian, get it together .
-
Actually Latino are usually know as latin americans people just say latino like when you're describing your nationality like "Yeah I'm latino" "Yeah I'm half black and half white" we just don't really have a term for whites
-
I don't know, I'm a white guy, a black guy is a black guy. What's the big deal?

I agree in the sense that there are no empirical and scientifically valid boundaries that define different races. Sure, we can use the idea of race to more easily describe and distinguish between people in conversation, but the idea that there are fundamental differences between people of different "races" is just plain wrong. Race is a culturally constructed idea. Americans believe in race. We believe in Blacks, Hispanics, Asians, etc. But other cultures define it all differently. "Asian" is the most glaring difference.

Black American.
