There have been tons of posts and arguing about what should Bungie do about DoT, ever since Thorn and now with Sunsingers. I have been apart of several conversations regarding this. I have seen people argue that it is too OP. Uncounterable. I have seen people argue that without it, Sunsingers would suck. I have seen people in the middle ground, unsure.
I am going to propose the most reasonable solution I can think of.
If you are in fight with someone, and they use any weapon/grenade/ability to apply DoT to you, that DoT immediately stops ticking if that person is killed. The abilities and perks are not changed.
The majority of the time when I do die to a firebolt or incendiary grenade, I usually have killed the player that threw it but continue to burn out and end up dying. The way this changes things is it doesn't nerf those abilities or take away the usefulness of those classes. Those players can still lead with a grenade and have the advantage. But, if the "victim" is able to fight back and kill that player, the DoT stops, rewarding that player for winning the fight. It also encourages team based play because one side, teammates will want to team shoot to ensure the kill is finished off, but the other side is obviously encouraging team shooting to prevent a death and keep map control.
I think this is pretty reasonable, and an outside the box way to approach something without just nerfing things. What do you think?
