Who the hell down votes a simple question? Inb4 I get down voted
Why do so many long time users here care about downvotes on a site that doesn't even track them, nor have the user base to even justify such votes? Reddit sees millions of users a day and you can easily see your lifetime karma total. Here? It's next to posts, sure, but few people pay attention to them and I don't believe you can see your total anywhere... Hell, I only use likes to bump posts I don't want to reply to. You and Max are weird :P

You can see them on iOS.

Shhh it's getting good

I think you're REALLLLLY reading too much into my post, man. When I first saw the thread, I noticed that it had only a couple replies but had been downvoted to zero. And the OP wasn't offensive like.. at all. So I took the opportunity to point out how silly some folks are. The second comment was actually intended to egg people into downvoting my post for laughs..

The second comment was actually intended to egg people into downvoting my post for laughs..
I was more referring to the first part of your post. I just find it odd that both you, and Max, care enough about downvotes on this site to point them out. I don't think either of you are, like, being brought to tears by them or anything, but you both obviously care to some extent or you wouldn't post about it. I'm honestly really curious as to the reasoning behind the care. My asking this time isn't meant to be offensive (though, I was admittedly poking fun at both of you in my previous post); I'm just not sure why the nature of downvotes on this site elicits a response from y'all when they mean even less here than they do on Reddit.

I.. I'm honestly at a loss here and don't know how to respond to this. It was just a funny post... Do I have a habit of mentioning the voting system that I'm not noticing or something?

Do I have a habit of mentioning the voting system that I'm not noticing or something?
Lol never mind then, dude. Its not a big deal. It's just something I've noticed brought up as of late from both you and Max. I found it odd because nobody ever mentions the voting system here from my experience (or at least not the downvote part of it), so I asked why the sudden interest out of sheer curiosity. Meant no harm.

No worries, you just had me really confused for a second there haha. But nah, the voting system here is little more than a "hey, I like your post!" button. Same with the mostly pointless follower system in place. I don't put any concern into it. And I think the voting and "like" system takes a lot of discussion off the boards. Not personally a fan of any of them. I just saw the zero and thought it was funny that someone was running around downvoting for no reason. Probably wouldn't have even posted at all if it wasn't Pureey's thread. He's a swell guy.

All righty, fair enough! 'preciate the 2¢. And pureey is indeed a pretty cool guy, him and his alien killing.

I imagine it's because some people (such as DTL) are empathetic and just don't want others who make threads to feel put down for no good reason because people disliked their posts. Now you could argue that the OP of any thread shouldn't care about such a trivial thing, but emotions are often seemingly illogical and out of our control. What doesn't and doesn't matter is up to the individual.

I guess I just, personally, find it odd that people care about the votes here when they seem so seldom used in comparison to a place like Reddit where karma whoring not only runs rampant, but has several observable results (such as a widely viewed front page, a visible karma total for your post and profile, and a potential to be gilded). The votes here always seemed utterly pointless.
Some people think of them as opinions, rather than ratings. And others' opinions can hurt, more so for some than others.
Fair enough. I guess it's just news to me that the voting system is actually catching on here. I always assumed few people paid attention to it beyond hitting the up vote button to silently agree or bump a post.

That's pretty much all I personally ever use it for. That and to save a thread that I like to my Favorites.
