So Mesa Sean weighed in on the SBMM fiasco, asked for opinions from top players. According to some stats I am one so here is what I put on his YT comments:
"At first I thought "well this is a very one sided opinion". But you actually cover our side (top 1%) a little so good stuff.
I'm a top 1%, but barely, I sit on that borderline of tier 2/very good but not pro. Since SBMM was introduced, I've had to abandon the crucible. It's constant constant top players. It's no fun, it's resorting to everyone using any tactic to win (glitches etc). It's unbelievably laggy, I could show you Gigabites of clips from every week of what you would call ridiculous lag. Seriously.
The tough matches aren't what drove me away. I was still doing just as well as always, the lag was a small part of it. Especially as it gradually got worse.
What drives me away still is the inability to play with friends and followers. A literal quote in my steam chat: "I'd love to play with you NWT, you know I would, but when I do I run into all the sweaties and I hate it"
How is that fair?! Why can I not have fun? Why can I not have friends anymore?
Since when has it been a punishment to be good at a game?
One thing I completely disagree with what you said is "they just want to beat up on us!" I have NEVER seen anyone say that. So where has this come from? The stat whores maybe but they are a TRUE minority. Rather than those who give PVP and it's thousands of fans lifeblood. Good players like a challenge, I mean we CREATED SWEATS, an entire system of tournaments etc. We did that without any of the tools to, against all odds and with 0 support from Bungie. If we just wanted to beat up on people all day... Why do that? Why go to the trouble?
I could go on. And on.
Trying to look from the average player: yeah the crucible right now is lovely. Easy, even. Again why is it a punishment to be good? Why should my thousands of hours of "PVP training" go against me? What game does that?
The average player knows they will get games where they smash and games where they will be smashed.
Does this current system help the average PVP player to get better? No. As you're only playing people at your level. Does it encourage you to get better? No. As if you do get better you'll be playing sweats all day, after a 12 hour shift at work, like me and my skilled non-pro friends.
All it does is give the average player a respite whilst everyone else suffers.
For me the solution is very simple. A ranked playlist. Take SBMM completely out of crucible. Create a ranked system and put it there. The 1% want that!!!
Let crucible be a place where I can have a beer with friends after work. Go back to vanilla, when lag was bad, not laughable to the point of: "really?!!!... Like really?!!!"
Again I could chat on this all day.
What do you think to the opinion of a top 1% (who isn't really a top1%)
Good video. You asked for opinions. There's my vent
NWT"
TLDR; Good players are after fun, not "stomping people all day". Take away SBMM, put in ranked playlist.

Edited by the666guy: 6/2/2016 6:00:33 AMI'm nowhere near being a top player and I'd love to see sbmm removed and a ranked playlist instated. The lag has gone through the roof since December and as I've improved it's gotten so much worse. If sbmm is removed sure I could end up going against some top 1% player and get stomped but the odds of that are exactly 1%. Plus the odds of getting a top 1% player on my team are the same so its really pretty even. And how does this sbmm really work anyway? If I've been getting really in the groove and doing well I almost always get put into a match where the majority of the enemy team is about my skill level with one guy that's way better than me, while my team is just completely in over their heads. It's almost like the game is trying to fix some of these matches before they start.
-
So if this was football let's say, and you were the packers, you wouldn't want to play the patriots because you would great each other up, your rather pay Tulane university and have a good time ??? What about Tulane, they want to play northwest high school, and the high school wants to play grade schoolers... Frankly I've been enjoying myself much more on pvp since SBMM was introduced... You should go up against someone your skill, why not ?? I get better, play better players, get even better... Now it might not show up in kd but who cares, it's just a number... A big part of the "top tier" players, I can guarantee in their heart of hearts, are upset their kd is going down more then anything

Edited by Redstag Rambo: 5/28/2016 5:49:16 AMAll you have to do is put the suckiest guy as the lead, problem solved. When my raid group is doing PvP, we put the worst kd as lead and I totally kick ass. (I'm second best in the team). Did it again tonight, got 34 kills in one match, on my own I'd get 10-15. Just have to trick the SBMM.
-
Agree. Ranked playlist. Why should I be forced to sweat my ass off in crucible when all I want to do is relax and casually slay people after a long day of work. If I want to sweat I'll play scrims.
-
I want to run around with a fusion rifle, machine gun and auto rifle for fun. I'm tired of playing with these people that use the same 2 sniper rifles, the same 2 shotguns and pulse rifle. I want the crucible to be fun and full of diverse loadouts. Not the same copy paste loadout.
-
I like playing against people my same skill level it's quite a challenge, if anything it's forcing me to push harder to get to the next level. Ever since this sbmm I won't deny, crucible can be underwhelming especially seeing my name below the scoreboard but it's okay because I try to figure out my flaws and fix them on the next match. Not complaining, for me nothing has changed though... I have times when I'm the best around and times when I'm just playing horrible
-
I agree with all your points - I am also an above average player, have over 40,000 kills and held a 2.0+ kd before playing in organized sweats. However, the point of yours I want to emphasize is that it's an awful reality when you can't play crucible with your friends because they simply can't keep up with the skill of a lobby. I have a friend who just got destiny and we've been playing a lot together, however, he expresses his frustration with crucible when we're together. Yet when he's by himself he says he's having as much fun as he's had in any other game. I just want to play with my friends and not have the sweat lords ruin their experience. I truly don't care if I get matched up against streamers/youtubers/sweaties constantly, just don't continue matching me with those people when my .6kd friends wanna play too. #saynotosbmm
-
Why do people put so much stock into what these youtubers streamers have to say about a game? They are just a bunch of nobodies like anyone else. Play the game and think for yourself. Geez
-
im definitly not top 1% but to me i enjoy the challenge of trying to get better than that one guy. sure destroying noobs is fun but that doesnt make you a better player.
-
There's just one problem with all these anti-sbmm posts. Most of them are made by so-called 1%ers. So, by definition ,your opinions are the minority in this matter. I would much rather hear what the bottom 50% have to say with regards to game play in the current pvp settings. I don't even think there's a current thread with regards to sbmm that's been made by an average or casual gamer. You know why? I bet you could guess. Let me repeat, The opinion of the top 1% of players in Destiny's pvp player base does NOT matter with respect to current sbmm settings.
-
My heart bleeds. Truly.
-
At first I thought it was whiny 1% like a rich guy whining about having to pay taxes, but I've been researching and it does seem that sbmm is effecting this play group pretty hard. Now playing against people of equal skill does help one get better and has a role in playing, so I disagree with that! Overall though I'm not sure of the reason bunji does not add ranked play list, seems like it would make both sides happy. I am aware some will complain no matter what you do. Is there some technical reason for no ranked play list ?
-
Edited by HoneyBadgerRage: 5/21/2016 12:53:32 AMNot only that but I hate going 5.0 while my whole team is at 0.5, the whole other team all 2.0s, all my scrubmates get legendary engrams/ good rolled weapons and I get nothing.... Such bs, if it's gonna be that bad at least let me have fun
-
Can u explain the ranked system wouldn't u still play ppl the same rank as yourself or am I missing something
-
If anyone needs an example of the difference. Here is a video of a guy making a new account in order to avoid SBMM. Something a lot of players are starting to do!
-
>Good players like a challenge. >Unless it's too much of a challenge; then they prefer a three-page whinge.

Agree mostly with what you said. I think I'm a 1% player by dtr (haven't checked in a while but I was diamond last I checked). I que solo most of the time and that's what brings out my complaints. I'm always getting matched against full fireteams that have a significant advantage in communication ontop of SBMM. What I would like: 1. The ability to disable join in progress- because it's a lot of fun joining an out of reach game when the enemy has more special heavy and supers than you 2. Permanently make freelance an option for all game modes besides trials- when I que solo and don't want to play stomp teams. They did it for rumble so don't tell me Bungie can't do it again 3. Introduce custom games- nothing fancy. Just allow me to match friends in a grouped lobby when we want to have fun against each other. 4. Create a ranked playlist and put SBMM in it- Regular crucible should be 100% cbmm and no SBMM. Buff the drop rates of legendaries in ranked playlist to encourage play ( people will play anyway to get better and farm Elo stats) This would make the 1% and solo players much happier in the crucible

i completely agree. i like the challenge but sometimes i just want to chill and play with some of my sub par friends and i can't. not being able to play with certain people just because they aren't in the top 1% is stupid and should not be a thing. they should have 2 separate playlists one for 3v3 and one for 6v6 that use skill based match making and make the regular playlist connection based
-
I enjoyed the video and I agree but for a top 1% player that shotty game is weak lol.
-
As a top 1% or even what you statwise to be in the "top 100" in some instances, this whole implementation of SBMM is simply awful. If for some reason they are still against creating a ranked playlist, why can't they create better attempts to pair up fireteams against fireteams. I shouldn't have to be afraid of playing solo to fly into most matches onto a losing team who is getting stomped by a full fireteam with nigh infinite heavy ammo and supers. To all the "average" players, I'm making a desperate attempt to back-up some of my fellow "elite" players. Not all of us want to have to pubstomp to try and enjoy the game, I can deal with losing fairly, anybody should. But do you really believe that lobbies filled with red-bars and being constantly rigged to lose while getting smashed with practically ZERO chance to be able to do shit to your opponents is fun? It's not, you lose controllers from this shit if you don't know when it's best to stop. I seriously miss being able to fly into most of my matches solo or with a friend and be able to have fun, before all the nerfs, before SBMM, and before this game began to somehow take a turn towards the even worse. Please Bungie, this isn't the solution. Get dedicated servers, separate playlists into ranked and social, or simply take off SBMM and I'm sure your game will begin to build up its rep again.
-
We just need ranked and social playlists, trials and IB should always be ranked though considering they're supposed to be competitive and playing people way above or below your skill isn't competitive regardless of what anyone may say.
-
I think a ranked playlist is a good idea. One thing that would drastically improve crucible would be punishing people for bailing on a match. I lost track of how many matches of rift or control where one or 2 people are left on my team and we get pummeled.
-
My response to your response to Mesa Seans Response.....Inception responses guys.
-
I created an alt to play with friends because they hated playing with me.
