It's called "Posturing". Guys will either be unaffected when a girl enters a room or they'll change their behavior completely. I've been on teams that did what you said, but 75% they are completely chill. I would suggest that you and your girlfriend make your own room and keep the leadership. People you recruit, would be less likely to try to dominate the group or act retarded.
