I'm sorry. I really am, but this is a fact. Let's just do a quick experiment:
"But Lincoln, the war was fought over state's rights."
State's rights to do what? Practice -blam!-ing slavery.
I'm sorry. The entire conflict was caused directly by slavey, and all other reasoning anybody can cite and conclude are indirectly related to slavey.
Get over it. The Civil War wasn't fought because the south wanted "freedom." The irony of that statement is beyond imagination. They fought for the freedom to own people as property!!? Lmao what? That literally makes no -blam!-ing sense.
"But Lincoln, not every solider fought to keep slavey in place. Most fought for their country and their state."
The south got crushed, and they had it coming. Fighting for a government that allows and actively supports the practice of slavery equally as despicable.

Slavery was their economy. It kept their families fed. Most slaveowners weren't the terrible monsters depicted in literature. They didn't fight to keep people as property, they fought to keep what kept their lives going. Not to mention Sectionalism and State's Rights were issues completely independent from slavery before slavery started stirring people's shit during the reform era, example, nullification crisis.
