A common held view among conservatives and critics of immigration is that progressives and the left are in favor of open border policy. However, I am going to explain why open borders would actually be a far right-wing proposal.
I know some of you are thinking "say whaaaa?", well thing is, essentially with this idea of doing away with borders, you're doing away with a nation-state, you're doing away with say US, UK, Australia etc. This would also allow huge flow of low wage workers to be brought in, depressing already declining wages of middle class and union workers in the face of income and wealth inequality. If you believe in a nation-state, you have an obligation to ensure fair working standards and decent standards of living to all its people, and you don't do that by eroding the middle class and making people even poorer.
U.S for example, Youth Unemployment, if you're white is 33%, Hispanic 36% and African American 51%, so ask yourself if you really should open the borders and bring in low wage workers, or do you help provide younger people opportunities to get jobs?
A moral responsibility I think, is the industrialized world has, is to work together to deal with the problems of global poverty, but you don't do that by making everyone poorer.
Right-wingers would love nothing more than a flow of workers to be brought in to work for $2 or $3 an hour, I'd say the Koch Brothers would. The TPP deal has been described as "NAFTA on steroids", well open borders would be TPP on steroids.
This is not meant to be an argument against immigration, by having smart and sane immigration system, then you can have sensible immigration without hurting the middle class.
So what do you think?
