Majority of Federal prisoners are theist

The reason I am posting this is because of the stereotype [u]Atheist have no morals because there is no God to hold them accountable for their actions.[/u]
If the stereotype was true, that number should be much higher than 0.07%.
My main point with this, i[b]t doesn't matter what your belief system is because belief systems don't necessarily correlate with morals.[/b] This isn't a knock against theist just trying to shed some light on really negative assumptions.
Sidenote: I see some Christians/Catholics saying that prisoners aren't real Theist. To those that have this view i ask you:[spoiler]1) Who are you to decide what a good Christian/Catholic/etc is? Isn't God the only one who would know and your just giving your opinion?
2) Aren't all sins equal, from white lies to genocide? [u](In context of religion not law[/u]) So if all sins are equal doesn't that make them just as real as you?[/spoiler]

1 ReplyNot all sins are equal. There are two types of sins, mortal and venial. If you die with a venial sin you will go to purgatory. If you die with a mortal sin on your soul you will go to hell.

Not necessarily. While atheists do not regard a higher spiritual and conceivable power, it doesn't necessarily mean they feel entitled to do whatever tf they physically can in life.

All sins are not equal, and the reason there are a lot of theists in prison is because they themselves chose it, also, atheists are a minority, so it comes as no surprise they are also a minority among inmates.

I'm an atheist but I feel I should point out that people often turn to religion during hard times - like when they have their freedom taken away. It's also a fairly effective way of making it look like you've changed - I'm guessing a lot of people fake finding god because they know it will reflect well on them. I'm not sure you can safely read anything into this.

15 RepliesI'm an atheist but the numbers are a bit misleading and here's why.....Black people are overly represented in our prisons and the majority of blacks believe in god. Same goes for Hispanics.

1 ReplyCorrelation vs causation. Prisons are often targets of missionary work, and being locked in a cell, I'd imagine you'd want something to hold onto.

Any sensible person (Atheist) knows that Isis is a bunch of evil brain dead murderous pedophiles. Plus that whole forgiveness bullshit for Christians.
