So, a buddy of mine (Versing At War) and I (FaceXFootStyle) came up with an idea (that maybe some people have already come up with):
There should be a practice shooting range somewhere in Destiny. Unless you read the weekly updates about gun tuning, spend your whole life patrolling, or frequent Planet Destiny and their videos, the stats on a gun are very ambiguous. It's basically impossible to tell what sort of practical *impact* (haha! ha!) changing those stats will have on your gun. Obviously you could just patrol a ton like I said or get stomped in the crucible while you're trying to decide if you even like a gun that you just spent your life savings on, but why not make it better on everyone? As if the Guardians wouldn't have one anyway.
There are innumerable reasons why this is a good idea, but here are three:
1) It gives guardians a non-competitive place to try out weapons. They can figure out the optimal range for a weapon, their preferred scope, how the different perk stats affect the weapon's use, etc.
2) It can give guardians a chance to really decide on a weapon before truly committing to it. Obviously, any motes, glimmer, or whatever that have been spent on these weapons would be lost should the user decide to scrap it, but there's a difference between simply upgrading a weapon and truly investing in one. This could help tip the scales much earlier, so we can move on to the loot we actually want, not just using something because we feel like we have to.
3) As a sort of counter to my last point, you could maybe introduce a weapon rental system through Banshee. I understand this may be asking too much, but it would be AMAZING to try out the Down and Doubt 00-0 before realizing you've made a terrible mistake. If not that though, then maybe it could become the primary vehicle for getting Gunsmith rank. I can see it now: "Omolon VR-7, Scout Rifle - The Future is what we make it. Take this weapon to the shooting range and eliminate targets. 0/100" Once you do, gunsmith rep acquired. Obviously you'd still bring your own weapons in, but it could have that unique twist too.
So there it is. Again, I'm sure someone out there in this mega-universe has thought of this, but if you like the idea/have more positives of your own to add, bump this post and let's talk!
Thanks for reading!
