It's Iron Banner again, which means that once again, people who don't normally play PvP are trying to remember how. This also means- yes, you guessed it- someone is on the forum telling them that they're opening the heavy ammo crates too soon.
There's a certain etiquette involved in opening the crate when you're on a team. If you're the only one at the crate, and there's no red on your radar, DON'T OPEN THE DAMN CRATE. I can't put it more clearly than that. Wait for the rest of your team so they get some heavy ammo as well.
Obviously, it's a judgement call sometimes. There may be a red line at the edge of your screen... in that case, is your team closer than the enemy? Can you wait for them? Or do you have an enemy bearing down on you, lusting for your chitlins, so that you have to pop the crate or risk losing it to the other team?
But other times, there's no judgement to be made. It's a clear case of seeing that half of your team is still converging on the crate, knowing that the enemy is nowhere in sight, and just not caring.
Yes, there's an announcement when heavy ammo is inbound. But on many maps, that's still not a lot of time to get to the crate from wherever one happens to be, especially since there's actual fighting taking place. Not everyone arranges their game around the drop timer. Sometimes it's just bad luck. Whatever the case, delaying a second or two is not going to cost you the game, and having a few more players with heavy ammo might actually affect the outcome. Many a loss has turned into a win, and vice-versa, based on some heavy kills at the right time.
Think about it next time you're tempted to open that crate all by yourself.

Edited by Mischievus: 4/27/2016 3:37:34 PMQuick helpful tips based on my experiences. Your mileage may vary: - Don't delay if your exposed like outside heavy on Black Shield. If you see red on your radar, pick up the heavy. Even if you don't see any red on your radar and your teammates aren't near you, pick it up and book it to cover. Why you ask? Take a gander at my "Word to the Wise." - If you see your teammates running towards you and you see an enemy taking aim with a super or their own rockets, just pick it up and hope that the closest teammate got the heavy as well. Nothing like pushing your luck only to get rekt and teabagged by the other team. - If you see that your teammates picked up the other heavy, pick up the one you are at ASAP. Don't wait. Don't diddle around. Just pick it up. Don't give even a small chance for the other team to get heavy period. Let their tears and depression from not getting heavy ammo fuel your determination to use your newly acquired one on them. - If you don't see red on radar or any teammates at all, use your discretion. If your exposed, you honestly should just pick it up and book it but if your in a spot that you believe you can honestly hold down like say, the inside heavy spawn in Black Shield, then you could wait for your teammates if you want to. It's up to you. You probably should though. Just saying. - Word to the wise, there are many, many snipers nowadays so you might not see them on your radar. Be diligent in knowing your surroundings and checking those sniper lanes. Nothing like running towards my teammates at a heavy spawn only to see they're getting picked one by one and seeing an ever so nimble enemy combatant grabbing the heavy. With every person that this helps out, I will donate a piece of a random wood chip procured at no expense from my local lumber yard to my fire pit, =).

Actually the etiquette is for you to all gather under my nova bomb just as heavy becomes available. I sincerely thank you.

Bump, upvote, gold star, all the things. Stupid people sometimes. Especially in a close match with a heavy weapons bounty....
-
This is why I omly have two heavy kills on each character so far. Bl00dy idiots grabbing it too quickly
-
These are not set in stone rules. For instance: bannerfall If you don't grab the bottom heavy before they grab the top heavy you will get a rocket in the face. If you're going to make a post like this, at least take the time to work out some more specific instances.
-
As if anybody dumb enough to do stupid shit with heavy is going to read this, let alone apply it. Idiots are idiots are a reason, they simply don't learn.
-
What I hate is when I'm guarding the heavy crate, take out the one enemy bearing down on us but get taken out by his super, run like mad back to the crate to see two guys grab it while I'm like 30 meters away. You couldn't wait two more seconds?
-
8/8 got rekt, lightning grenades=OP http://xboxdvr.com/gamer/XVO%20Timebreaker/video/15919662
-
Would you like us to form a queue while we wait aswell? Jk.
-
Several teammates in view of heavy ammo? No red in sight? Grab heavy, ain rocket straight down, fire.
I'm not responsible for any ensuing salt
-
There is a countdown to when it arrives. If you don't want to miss out, get there early and secure the area.
-
We all did this once, waiting for team mates to get heavy. Guess what happened? Two titans came out of mid air and fist of havoc all five of us.
-
I doubt its just noobs doing it. I've done it a few times accidentally and also just because i feel like being a dick that day
-
I don't even bother going for heavy anymore
-
I swore off heavy along time ago, waiting for teammates is far too risky...and imo not worth the B.S. ... I'll just go ambush the other teams heavy... It really is sad that now it comes once a match, at the 5 minute marker, and we still have posts like this... If you want heavy, be there when it drops, every single second counts...you are holding your team back...
-
If I see a bunch of red cones on my map I'm not waiting for anybody.
-
Until you get sniped because it's widows court and radar won't help you avoid being sniped I never wait even if I'm playing with friends, they understand me pulling the heavy and pushing with it works better than me waiting for no reason. Some people weren't meant to play pvp tho it's ok.
-
I'm not waiting until I see red...that's a dumb mistake. That's how people get slayer medals. One rocket. 6 kills
-
Also, HEAVY AMMO HELPS YOUR TEAMMATES!!! If only one teammate ends up with heavy, but the full other team has it, YOU WILL DIE!!!
-
When people do this, not only would I say you're screwing over your team but you may very well have cost your team the match.
-
Yup, this is even more important in games other then control, especially when matches are super close
-
Edited by Artimise Flare: 4/27/2016 12:02:21 PMThe sad thing is...the "casual" players likely will not be on the forums reading this... I know of the etiquette for picking up heavy, heck I try to do the same with special, even more so now. Other times though, if I can deny the heavy from the enemy team, I'll take it if I know they're closing in to try and nab it for themselves.
-
Half of the time the people who pick up the heavy are the one to die first before even using it. Seen it happen countless time.
-
I practice this anyways, but what I hate is when I show up first, or join in waiting with a few other teammates, suddenly someone other than myself grab it as another teammate is still making their way over. Of course whoever grabbed runs off and I'm standing there getting emoted by the guy who was a little to late getting there. I didn't pull it, I'm sorry!!!! It was the other guy! I swear :(
