The Etiquette of the Heavy Ammo Crate (Refresher Course)

It's Iron Banner again, which means that once again, people who don't normally play PvP are trying to remember how. This also means- yes, you guessed it- someone is on the forum telling them that they're opening the heavy ammo crates too soon. There's a certain etiquette involved in opening the crate when you're on a team. If you're the only one at the crate, and there's no red on your radar, DON'T OPEN THE DAMN CRATE. I can't put it more clearly than that. Wait for the rest of your team so they get some heavy ammo as well. Obviously, it's a judgement call sometimes. There may be a red line at the edge of your screen... in that case, is your team closer than the enemy? Can you wait for them? Or do you have an enemy bearing down on you, lusting for your chitlins, so that you have to pop the crate or risk losing it to the other team? But other times, there's no judgement to be made. It's a clear case of seeing that half of your team is still converging on the crate, knowing that the enemy is nowhere in sight, and just not caring. Yes, there's an announcement when heavy ammo is inbound. But on many maps, that's still not a lot of time to get to the crate from wherever one happens to be, especially since there's actual fighting taking place. Not everyone arranges their game around the drop timer. Sometimes it's just bad luck. Whatever the case, delaying a second or two is not going to cost you the game, and having a few more players with heavy ammo might actually affect the outcome. Many a loss has turned into a win, and vice-versa, based on some heavy kills at the right time. Think about it next time you're tempted to open that crate all by yourself.

  • I'm the type that'll usually try to wait as long as I can to pop it, especially with it mostly dropping once now. That or I'll miss it all together because I'll still try to save my super to stop as many of them as I can.

  • Bump. I too have noticed that people are forgetting about being courteous about the heavy drop. I suspected that they were noobs.

    • I have to disagree with this whole statement. There is only one heavy drop a match now. It is even more crucial to get out before the other team starts their push. If no one is on radar I'll wait 5 seconds or so, but if the drop is in the open like shores of time (outside) a sniper can tag you outside of radar so I'm not waiting at all.

    • That's a good way to be converted to an orb. BTW bungie I want a perk on the next expansion that has an orb disguise buff. At 5% health you convert to an orb. A hunter comes running over to get the orb and you convert back BOOMMM.

    • I normally die holding down our heavy for my team to get there. When 4 guys push your heavy and your team is right there and they go to the other one.

      • Thankful I run with a team and communicate. I don't always go after heavy with my team bc even though I'm not that good in pvp I like to challenge the other team for their heavy. That way hopefully they pop it before their whole team gets it.

      • I with you 100% nothing more frustrating then when 3/4 of the team is about 75 ft. Away from the crate and that one scrub pops it before your in range talk about salty

      • totally get your frustration on this one.. however, those that read on the forums probably already know this.. they don't give a shit. plain and simple.. I play in a clan and we teach our new members the etiquette.. its worth killing yourself to steal the other teams heavy and worth waiting for your team to get your own.. many solo players don't give a damn about the team aspect of the game.. are out for high score, kd and there own agenda.. sad but, true..

      • If its red I grab it. However if I have all my Heavy Weapon Bounties done I'll be more lax on it seeing I don't "Need" it as much.

      • I wait 3 seconds after you can grab it. If you aren't there by then to -blam!-ing bad, you had plenty of time.

      • I have waited way too many times for slow teammates only to get wrecked by the enemy as soon as they finally managed to get to the heavy. Sorry but not sorry any more. If there's only a remote chance the enemy will be there soon, I'll grab that heavy and get out of there.

      • First off knowing when to pull heavy is all about Map/Radar awareness. Seems how majority of Destiny players have none; here are some basic rules for heavy. 1. If you suck don't pull heavy ever. You will do nothing with it, and you always pull it at the wrong time. 2. If you suck and you hear heavy ammo in bound just run away. Go to the furthest point away from the action and stay there. Please stay there for the rest of the match. Should have been there the whole time. 3. If you suck, but not as bad as say #2 - always rush opposing teams heavy, and be a meat shield for those few legit players sniping/supering opposing teams heavy. Your cannon fodder anyway act like it. 4. If you suck and don't have heavy, but another team has heavy. Become a meat shield and take rockets; because cannon fodder. If on that rare occasion you manage to dodge one than make sure you "X box record that", and put it in your badass clips. 5. If you suck please just run strikes. Thank you

        • Screw that ! First Come first served. If you can't hustle your ass to the heavy in time deal with it. You know when it's going to drop same as everyone else. This comment is about as stupid as the "waving" to not play with heavy that round BS.

            • The only reasons I pick up heavy for: - I see two or more red blips on the radar - one guy rushing in to steal the heavy, cause he might have his super - two or more teammates are at the heavy with me Those are really the only three exceptions that I'd deem justifiable. Otherwise, you're being a dick.
