Lauren visited the medic's office. "How are Dillon's injuries?"
A frame turned around. "We had to remove four melted iron rods from him. Two in his shoulders, one in his abdomen, and one in his leg. Don't worry, the titan survived the surgery and should be awake in a days time." The frame gave Lauren a holo-tablet showing all the data collected from the operation. The frame looked to the sleeping man. "Was 'Dillon' a defender?"
"Yes.?" Lauren slightly jumped at the question.
"He carries his title proudly..." The frame continued.
Lauren's muscles loosened up and a smile broke across her face. "Yes.. yes he does..."
The next morning, Lauren returned to the office. A frame let Lauren in. "Good morning, Baby."
Dillon was sitting up, enjoying a nice cup of coffee, and watching the morning news. "Good morning."
"How do you feel?"
Dillon turned off the TV. "I feel better. Ready to get back to work, that's for sure. I hate being cooped up like this." He placed down the coffee.
Lauren sat on the edge of the bed and patted Dillon's leg. "Work? You need your rest, whether you like it or not."
"Could I at least be at home.. with you?" Dillon took Lauren's hand.
Lauren got off of the bed. "Someone wants to see you, Dillon. You're a hero." Lauren opened the door.
"A hero?" Dillon shifted his position.
A mother holding her daughter walked in. At first she was cheerful and smiling. "Thank you for saving Lucy. We were separated in the crowd." As the mother spoke, her demeanor turned grim. "Then the Fallen attacked. I thought we were going to lose her..." The woman knelt down and laid her head on the bed and started to cry.
Dillon sat up. He placed his hand on the woman's shoulder. "Ma'am, I am just doing my job. We all are."
Dillon looked to Lucy. She was laying her head on her mother's shoulder. Lucy was still in shock. "Did you know you saved me?" Asked Dillon.
Lucy raised her head. "I.. did?"
"Yes. Those baddies could've walked around and got us from behind. You.. told me where they were coming from." Dillon patted Lucy's head.
Lucy smiled. "Mommy, did you hear that? I saved a titan!"
"Yes you did." The mother stood up and looked back to Dillon. "Thank you..."
"No problem." Dillon smiled as he waved to Lucy, who waved back.
When the visitors left the room, Dillon climbed out of bed. "So, I'm a hero? And here I thought I was just a titan."
"You're a guardian, Dillon." Lauren kissed Dillon. "You know, you would make a great father." Lauren was smiling at the display she just witnessed.
"Is that so?" Dillon put on his boots, then willed his armor on.
Lauren slowly walked over to Dillon. She kissed him again. "Do you think I could be a good mother?"
"Do I really need to answer that?" Dillon willed his helmet on before Lauren could slap him. "In all seriousness, you would make a great mother."
Dillon and Lauren returned home. There had been no other reports of Fallen, so it was as good a time to keep training. "What do you got planned this time?" Asked Dillon.
Lauren paced back and forth, thinking. "I got a surprise. Try to make a ward of dawn."
"All right. I doubt much will change." Dillon threw out his arms and formed a ward of dawn around him. He formed a solid ward, but he could not maintain it. "I really hope you don't plan to shoot me this time."
"No. This is my plan." Lauren walked through the ward and placed her hands on Dillon's shoulders. The added void coursed through Dillon, strengthening the ward of dawn.
"Whatever you're doing, Lauren, it's working!" Dillon was able to support the ward, but ice covered his fingers and crept down his hands. "The void is causing frostbite on my hands! How are you holding up?"
"I am a bit chilly." Lauren continued to channel void through Dillon. "Are you ready to drop the ward?"
