Lauren reloaded her rifle and Dillon covered for her! Dillon panned from dreg to dreg, shooting them! One dreg that Dillon sighted up on wasn't a dreg at all!
"Wait Dillon!" Lauren pulled down the barrel.
Dillon looked at the figure.
"Momma!! Momma!!" it was a little girl, lost, running for her life!
She tripped behind a rock when a dreg, with a dagger, caught her! Dillon pulled out a hand cannon and popped one shot off! The dreg fell like a rock. All that could be heard now was the girl's cries! Dillon ran and jumped clear over the rock!
Dillon acted as a, willing, human shield for the girl! He shot off the dregs and vandals! A wire bolt hit Dillon's right shoulder! He reeled, but he held his ground!
"You're a Defender! Use a ward, stupid!" yelled a Striker!
"Uh, um... I'm not super charged!" Dillon yelled back.
Another wire bolt passed through his left arm! Dillon held up his rifle with his right arm and shot more Fallen! Dillon took a third bolt through his lower abdomen! He coughed and hunched over. He pulled the trigger five times, one bullet fired! Dillon looked to the little girl. "It's time to go. Go that way!" Dillon pointed to Lauren.
The girl rubbed her eyes of all the tears then climbed over the rock. Lauren picked up the girl and carried her to safety!
Dillon limped to the line of Guardians when another bolt hit just left of his spinal cord. He stumbled and gasped for air! He lost his footing and fell to the ground!
"Dillon!!" cried Lauren returning to the fight!
"D***! That hurt!" Dillon tried to crawl to safety, not giving up.
"The people are clear! The Fallen are retreating! Get that Titan back!" yelled the captain!
Lauren helped Dillon walk when the Striker helping Dillon showed up. "Hey! Why didn't you use a ward of dawn?! That girl almost died, you almost died, I could've!"
"Do not bring up that little girl unless you found her parents! As for you and I... Have you forgotten who we are?! We gave an oath! An oath that says we will die for the protection of the City!" Dillon shoved back the man.
"I didn't ask about the oath! I asked.. why did you.. not use.. a ward?!" the man walked back up.
"I told you! No super! You were no help, not making orbs."
"Come on, Dillon." Lauren walked away with Dillon. "I got to get you to the medic."
Defenders are determined by their heart, not their ward.
Here, I tell the untold stories of legends amongst us, within us. Some set things in motion, while others went beyond the impossible. Keep fighting Guardians and tell me. Will you become legend?

I already write my own fanfic series but I'm kinda interested in making a short story about my warlock now because of this.
