They could literally remove every ability on the tree besides fireborn, and it's still be a good pve class.
That said, who the hell uses Viking funeral in PvE?

People like me. Touch of flame is extremely good for pve especially because the burn prevents enemy shields from regenerating.
-
I do. The other two options in that column suck. Radiant Will only matters very rarely, since you'll be sitting on your super most of the time in case you need to rez, and Sunburst is unreliable and unnecessary, since by the point that coordinated efforts become important your feeble Scorch attack won't be killing much of anything and your allies have enough enemies to kill that they have no trouble charging their supers anyway. Viking Funeral is the only perk that offers consistent rewards, especially since you can get double fusion grenades from Starfire Protocol and, soon it looks like, double solar grenades from Sunbreakers.
-
But now you're wearing Starfire protocol just to run touch of Flame..
-
As opposed to what? Heart of the Praxic Fire for a super you never use? Gift of the Sun and Touch of Flame are the two best neutral perks the class possesses. Why not have them both?
-
That's really not different than me saying spamming grenades during radiance is by far your best ability, so wear praxic fire and pop your super every time there are orbs/ majors to get your super right back.
-
Heart of praxic fire was nerfed, it literally gives you one more nade during your super, most useless exotic for the warlock.
-
It wasn't HoPF the was nerfed directly. It was the delay between throwing a nade, and the next one beginning to charge. That's why you need gift of the sun.
-
That's literally what the exotic perk is on hopf, I've tested it out and you get 1 more grenade with it. I use double fusions btw.
-
HoPF still makes the recharge faster, on both nade and melee. It sounds like you tested either without radiant will, or without maxed discipline. Maybe even without either.
-
That's what i did in Y1 when i mained warlock. It sure gave off a lot of fusions.
-
Different play styles, I guess. The point is, though, that Viking Funeral plays a legitimate role in PvE.
-
I agree about different styles. But i just really don't see a role it can play that a solar grenade can't already do without it.
-
Enemies move out of solar grenades. Touch of Flame and Viking Funeral will finish off a lot of enemies that would otherwise escape with a bit of health remaining. And like I said, the alternatives all suck.
-
Edited by Willdahbeest: 4/6/2016 5:39:35 AMI'm definitely not advocating the other perks. They damn sure suck. But not enough to give up gift of the sun, or praxic fire.. I'm not saying it's not useful, it's just a negligible amount of damage to sacrifice anything for in PvE
-
I use it because combined with Solar Grenades (for PvE) it melts everything that dares come across it. (Melts Wizards and Cabal like butter).
-
Solar grenades do this effectively regardless. You're arguably wasting a perk for little benefit.
-
Enemies run away from your Grenades. If they got out at all, they will still die (the reason I say they melt like butter). Besides for me, having two Grenades slows down the cooldown timer too much; so it isn't my personal cup of tea. Also Angel Of Light makes me a floating target, so Touch Of Flame is a better option. I also run Heart Of The Praxic Fire, so I have grenades faster than I can throw them with max Discipline. But hey, it's all a preference to each player.
-
To prevent shield regen for longer on beefier targets? Me.
-
Well hopefully you at least switch to radiant will while you're dead.
