Couldn't have said it better myself. It's actually funny how most of those self proclaimed "sniper beasts" aren't even skilled enough to get headshots. Rather, they just body shot once and immediately switch to a primary to kill you with one bullet.
When they say aim assist on snipers is not a problem, they're just trying to dissuade bungie from nerfing their best snipers (aka shadow of veils and 1000 yard) with the highest aim assist. Heck, their AA is so high that it would make more sense to give them a perk called "head-seeker" and find a different name for the actual head-seeker perk used on pulse rifles. I've even seen top tier players switch to these snipers when they're mad due to losing badly.
The true sniping skill died in TTK. Before that, people only ran mid to low AA snipers such as Her Benevolence, LDR, Longbow, praedyth's revenge, etc. and the game was way more balanced in terms of sniping.

If you're judging by default aim assist, the list would be partly wrong. Praedyth is low AA anyways. LDR and Longbow can achieve a way higher AA than 1000 yard if you use the "longview" scope on them, but nobody uses that scope competitively. On the other hand, you can comfortably run "shortgaze" on a 1000 yard with hidden hand, and you basically have around the same AA as the last two with "longview". Shadow of veils is high AA, no doubt.

LDR has 53 aim assist while 1000 Yard has 56. Longbow has 69 while 1000 Yard has 56. Trust me, 1000 Yard Stare has just above middle of the pack aim assist. I do believe that Hidden Hand should get removed kind of like Shot Package and Sniper bodyshot damage be nerfed to prevent the well-hated art of nKuch'ing. (Bodyshot switch to primary).

Yup am welcome to join you and gain some hate. Year 1 everyone had shotties after the great fusion nerf, remember when you would get pissed off because of all those Thorns, TLW's and snip..........oh wait that's right snipers wasn't relative. Scroll forward to present day and now people are sniping from what should be shotgun range. Bungie should change the primary ammo to green cause it's not like anyone cares for primaries anymore. And (To get more hate) there is no meta created by Bungie, there is just lazy gamers who can't be arsed to "Git gud" But hey it's snipers turn in the limelight, can't wait for the nerf..... wonder what the sheepple will move onto next???

I've been running bladedancer and fusion rifles since the release and even though I've been annoyed with the constant, irrelevant nerfs, I've stuck to them up to this day. I bet most snipers you see nowadays used to be shotgun players, and most shotgun players you saw before february 2015 were fusion users. Don't even get me started on subclasses or even classes.

It's funny actually because I'm kind of the opposite. I was always a sniper guy and made un of people that only used shotguns. I've used the shortly a few times when I felt like trolling kids, but I still mainly snipe
