Besides allowing REAL CUSTOMIZATION for any and all items (EXCLUDING EXOTICS OF COURSE) this would in a way make the 'old raids' items (especially the armors) relevant again...

Exactly! People will grind old and new content. Old content for the aesthetics they either dismantled or missed out on in the past. New content to maintain the highest light still.
