Two different cosmetic suggestions. "Transmogrification" is on the Community Wish List (http://www.bungie.net/en/Forums/Post/140885111), but doesn't really specify what they're working on:
(1) Tl;dr allow each armor slot to use different shaders (or not use one at all).
Long version: Instead of having shaders apply to the entire outfit, allow us to mix-and-match shaders by applying them to each piece of gear. This would allow us to completely customize the look of our guardians.
For example, you could mix The Old Guard (black shader) with Ascendent Plane (the shader from the hard mode raid that's glowing-green, black, and white) for a neat almost-all-black-with-highlights-of-glowing-green look. You could also choose to NOT put a shader on one piece of gear.
(2) Tl;dr Two boxes for each armor slot, one for stats/perks and one cosmetic.
Long version: The first is what the game would base our stats/perks on, and would act like the current setup. The second box would be optional. If you equip gear in that slot, it would be solely for visuals. If that box remained empty, the game would base your appearance on the gear in the first box.
For example: You're a titan wearing The Armamentarium in the first box, so you have two grenades. Then you put Crest of Alpha Lupi in the second box, so your titan gets to have badass wolf chest armor while running two grenades.
Your thoughts?

I like these. Though I don't think that you should be able to modify the cosmetic slots of Exotics in PvP at least. In PvE it's fine but there is a slight issue if someone has Purifier Robes (example) and I stand close to them with a shotgun, ready for a self-rez and they end up blinding me because I didn't know.

That'd be pretty cool I guess. I could wear my favorite greens or blues, but have my purples and yellows effects.

I love this idea but it would hit bungies "you must grind eternally for the gear you want" logic
