A very large part of the issue is your community trying to impose its existence into everyone's lives. I certainly dont care about your group any more than racist or immigration groups, and I, and all other Americans, are entitled to our opinions so long as it doesnt violate other's rights. This means that i can dislike gays, trans, or even mexicans if i want to as long as i respect their rights as a legal citizen. The education department does not have the job of teaching kids what to believe. Societal views are determined from society, and that is essentially the news sites, forums like these, twitter, facebook, or other social media. Bringing gay activists into schools only wastes more of the time we are paying for through taxes. What NEEDS to happen in schools is a complete restructure, with a 1-10 grade system that spends 40 hours a week and one month learning a subject, then proceeding to the next in the same manner. We NEED to be more efficient with our education system, and trying to teach with the intent of "no child left behind" only stagnates the learning process for the majority of people. Educate better, quicker, and get these people into the economy as productive members of society.
