Just stop. Stop using autism as a put-down. As the parent of a daughter on the autism spectrum, its disheartening when ignorant people use it as a term of derision, not just these forums, but in everyday life. People on the spectrum process information in very unique ways, but also exhibit behaviors that typically minded folks may find odd. They can also exhibit uncanny genius--my daughter by age 5 knew world capitals better than most grownups, having an eidetic memory.
Unless you personally know someone affected by autism spectrum disorder (ASD) you don't know jack, & your digs are borne of spiteful indifference. So to all who would continue to do so, there goes your insensitive theory, plummeting out a high-rise window. Autism: different...not worse. **daughter Dylan drops mic/walks offstage**

Autists everywhere

I for a moment thought of Filthy Frank...
IT'S TIME TO STOP.
In all seriousness, good post. But uh... OffTopic may be a better place for it. The #Destiny forum is for Destiny related things.

So sensitive must be fat (Come get me ninjas)

As someone who works with SEN pupils in a school, I agree.

i'm a daily forum reader and poster.. I have never seen anyone ever use autism as a put down.. my clan had an issue with someone with autism who used his condition (sorry not sure what to call it) as an excuse to act out of order, disrespect our members etc. we eventually had to kick him out of the clan for his abusive actions. I am a firm believer that one must carry themselves and act appropriately regardless of your own maladies. You are always accountable for your own actions. re tard was more widely used as a word to mean slow, as in re tard breaks for big semi trucks.. it started to be used widely by many refering to people with all sorts of mental and physical limitations to the point that they took on the word and now feel it is disrespectful to use . perhaps the population is using Autistic as a put down, but, I really cannot see how that impacts anyone who has the condition or knows someone with it.. It would seem more likely you are just looking for ways to feel slighted by the world..

Edited by SK8ITUP53: 3/7/2016 5:48:23 PMMy son is on the spectrum, I applaud you posting this. It will fall of deaf/stupid ears but I get it. It's hard, and I would probably lock someone out who called my kid a derogatory autistic name. Good luck brother. Edit: apparently people no longer know what common expressions or sayings are. Don't be like them, be smart, not salty. :D

I'm with you. I'm all for name calling and joking and cursing. But, autism and other related terms used as insults are a bit much. I knew someone who's child was autistic and had other issues as well. It was a struggle. As a parent myself I would do anything for my children. Seeing them suffer is the most unbearable feeling I have ever felt. God bless and I hope your little one can push through the difficulties with ease and strength. In the meantime?
-blam!- all these other assholes
Put downs are only put downs because it effects the person it is said to. No one else should be offended by it.

It's not a put down its a "meme"

Wrong place. You won't find sincerity or sympathy on an Internet gaming forum.
-
Wow this person is really, really autistic.
-
oh no. no no. you just set yourself up for so much trolling and negativity. get out while you still can. its not too late to run and never look back.

Did I stumble into Tumblr?
-
You are obviously aware of what these forums are like. You are obviously not stupid. So what exactly did you hope to gain by telling strangers in an anonymous forum not to use a certain word? Think about it...
-
Wow great Destiny post, would love to see more of these!!!
-
Boo hoo muh autism. No one cares you liberal crybaby.
-
Use anecdote of personal bias to try and justify autism being cool. Yeah, man, I'm totally not going to use it as an insult anymore, even though it's obvious where she got her autism from. (You, because you're autistic. as -blam!-).

People will get offended about anything nowadays. Stop taking yourself so seriously and those insults won't bother you.

I have Aspergers syndrome which is a high functioning form of autism, I can understand how the use of the word in a derogatory form can be offensive to someone who has a first hand experience dealing with someone with austism, but for me personally, I just laugh it off, sometimes I use the term myself, sometimes I have my own moments where I am clearly autistic as shit. Obviously though I am a big supporter of people with autism seeing as I have it myself, I dont see that there is anything wrong with me, I am just different and think differently and the way I perceive things is different, but I refuse to let it ruin my day if someone calls me autistic as an insult, they just jelly of my superior Aspie brain power.
-
So your daughter has Savant Syndrome if she knew world capitals at 5. But on a side note, going on the internet telling people not to use a word is just asking to get trolled.
-
While this is good and all, its the ones that use autism as an excuse to be dicks to everyone around them that really ruin it for everyone else.
