Just stop. Stop using autism as a put-down. As the parent of a daughter on the autism spectrum, its disheartening when ignorant people use it as a term of derision, not just these forums, but in everyday life. People on the spectrum process information in very unique ways, but also exhibit behaviors that typically minded folks may find odd. They can also exhibit uncanny genius--my daughter by age 5 knew world capitals better than most grownups, having an eidetic memory.
Unless you personally know someone affected by autism spectrum disorder (ASD) you don't know jack, & your digs are borne of spiteful indifference. So to all who would continue to do so, there goes your insensitive theory, plummeting out a high-rise window. Autism: different...not worse. **daughter Dylan drops mic/walks offstage**

I'm on the spectrum I'll use it however I want. It's our word
-
Sorry bro, but like retarded, you're going to have to learn to deal with it. Besides, her feelings aren't being hurt, yours are. And that's really not a concern.
-
*claps*
-
I have yet to see anyone use autism as a rebuttal. But I'll keep my eye out.
-
Relax Captain Chromosome. Everything is gonna be okay
-
Oh great, another SJW. YOU stop. Being offended is a byproduct of free speech. You are going to have to learn to live with that and stop trying to censor people.
-
Have you ever used the term "gay" derogitvily? If so then you are no better than what you are trying to call other people
-
Edited by D.Mentia: 3/7/2016 6:40:51 PMI know a kid with autism.. I can't stand him due to one simple fact. His parents don't discipline him in any way due to his condition..
-
Yeah I know a few people who have autism and they are being called downies and retards it's unbelievable. But yet again cod is worse
-
Don't take everything so seriously.
-
That last line was pretty autistic...

That's the Internet. You're going to have to suck it up or just ignore it.
-
Your discomfort about hearing a -blam!-ing word is not mine nor anyone elses concern. Get over yourself and harden your heart. Because not a single person nor the world in general gives a shit about you.
-
This is probably not the place for anything real
-
An insult is an insult because it's supposed to be hurtful. Someone somewhere will always be offended because it was meant to be offensive. As a parent, I can sympathize with you because I'm sure it hits home for you more so than others. But, as a parent, I'd rather teach my kid to toughen up and let stupid shit slide off her back. I'd rather teach her to punch a bully in the face.

Daughter called Dylan. Fail.

I am 40+, I went to a high school with only 2 black kids (they were brother and sister), dated the sister of a skinhead (because she was the hottest chick in school), played competitive hockey, have two very good friends who are gay, had a father who was dark skinned Portugese/Azore and my niece has brain damage. I have been around racists, idiots, bigots, homophobes, dregs of humanity and other monstrous people. I have never heard anyone use "autism" or the word "autistic" as an insult. Maybe I just don't see a lot.

Looks like off topic found your post before your post found off topic

I feel you man, my boy is autistic and i see idiots posting it as an insult all the time. Unfortunately these forums are full of vile little children and adults who really should know better, as the comments prove. I just smile inside when i see people use it as an insult because it juat shows how uneducated that person is. They have no idea that most autistic people are intelligent, sweet, caring and misunderstood. To use it as an insult is just insulting to themselves.

If there was an autism scale from say 1-100, literally everyone in the world is on it. Stop making fun because it includes you too.

What about Trisomy 21?
If you didn't know: trisomy 21 is Down's syndrome
