Just stop. Stop using autism as a put-down. As the parent of a daughter on the autism spectrum, its disheartening when ignorant people use it as a term of derision, not just these forums, but in everyday life. People on the spectrum process information in very unique ways, but also exhibit behaviors that typically minded folks may find odd. They can also exhibit uncanny genius--my daughter by age 5 knew world capitals better than most grownups, having an eidetic memory.
Unless you personally know someone affected by autism spectrum disorder (ASD) you don't know jack, & your digs are borne of spiteful indifference. So to all who would continue to do so, there goes your insensitive theory, plummeting out a high-rise window. Autism: different...not worse. **daughter Dylan drops mic/walks offstage**

While I completely agree with you....you need to realize that this is the internet...and we're in the offtopic section so people are going to behave like assholes :/
-
Agreed.

*uses reality on OP* Critical hit!

I understand this post, unfortunately these forums are full of 12 year olds without any life experience. Their stupidity is rampant. None of them would ever insult others like that in person. They are all a bunch of little keyboard warriors who somehow think they are tough or funny. I have met a couple in person, they seem to shut their mouths pretty quickly. I have a hard time believing anyone over the age of 16 would respond like that. Excellent that you understand your child is simply different, but not using that word as an insult is going to take several more years. Good luck.

I was diagnosed with aspergers and adhd in the second grade.

I don't take anything seriously in life so people using that as a insult is ok by me NOW BRING YOUR h8

I have no liking for those who get offended easily.
-
Yea, I don't get it. It's like when these kids casually tell you to kill yourself.
-
All the comments below show how pathetic the community is lol

I don't think most adults care to know world capitals

Calling someone autistic is bad. But retarded, stupid, idiotic, foolish, and many more are common insults. When someone calls your daughter autistic, that's when you get to punch them.
-
I completely agree but why waste your time explaining this to all these assholes on the forums?
-
Lol its just the flavor of the week man. Insults come and go, get over it. You'll never get your way, a perfect friendly world, so make better use of your time. Try using the mute button, try using it on me, because I'm sure as shit going use it on you.
-
Can I still tell people they're cancer?
-
I am Autistic myself, most people think they are experts on the world, suffice to say autistic people usually are ;)
-
There are people that say that shit? No wonder the gaming community is spat on
-
Couldn't have said it better

Save the oversensitivity for your LiveJournal. Living a life of victim mentality isn't healthy for you or a good thing to teach your children. If anything the young one needs to learn to be strong. Life is already unfair. If you dont already understand that at child raising age then you are part of the problem.
