AUTISM as a put-down/JUST STOP
Just stop. Stop using autism as a put-down. As the parent of a daughter on the autism spectrum, its disheartening when ignorant people use it as a term of derision, not just these forums, but in everyday life. People on the spectrum process information in very unique ways, but also exhibit behaviors that typically minded folks may find odd. They can also exhibit uncanny genius--my daughter by age 5 knew world capitals better than most grownups, having an eidetic memory.
Unless you personally know someone affected by autism spectrum disorder (ASD) you don't know jack, & your digs are borne of spiteful indifference. So to all who would continue to do so, there goes your insensitive theory, plummeting out a high-rise window. Autism: different...not worse. **daughter Dylan drops mic/walks offstage**

A friends son has autism, bright kid but has behavioural issue and is now in a school that can deal with kids and there unique issues. It annoys me when I here someone use a disability as a insult but at the same time I know I have without thinking about it. People will always say derogatory insults like that, you just have to ignore it. Like how everyone here uses the same insult normally aimed at homosexuals

There are a LOT of people in this particular forum who got warned or banned. It's scary that this forum harbors this many people who are out in the open about how much of a jerk they are. It's both surprising and not surprising, to be honest.

8 RepliesYep. I hear people say "that's ®3†@®∂3∂" or something similar at least a couple dozen times a week at school. It really sucks, especially since I'm an aspie too. Seriously, I was bullied for 7-ish months by a girl who kept calling things re****ed whenever I was in earshot. I knew she was doing it on purpose because she always smiled when a glared at her afterwards. Anyways, I'm getting a bit off topic. Basically, everyone needs stop saying stuff like that about autistics when chances are one of us could easily outsmart you. Also, what's with people still thinking that vaccines and artificial food dye cause autism? They think that's true and call [i]us[/i] stupid.

My best friend has autism and he doesn't care that he's called retarded, should I stop that because it may hurt his feelings some day? It won't stop and neither will autism being an insult. We just moved to using autism instead of retard because it's more "politically correct". So have fun being an autistic retard.

One of the coolest people i've known has extreem autism. He's an amazing musician, very intelligent and perceptive, but He doesn't fit into normal society... Big deal, neither do I!

He would sit with me and my friends at lunch and none of us had the heart to tell him to leave due to his issue. Here are some of the things that Jacob did: 1. He slapped multiple girls' asses whenever they walked by and didn't get punished due to his issue so he kept harassing the poor women. 2. He would constantly say, "Hail Satan!" and, "Hail Hitler!" at lunch and do the n[i]a[/i]zi salute. 3. He would bring bags of chicken and just throw them at my friends and I. 4. He would beat the shit out of people just for telling him to stop doing something (Like hailing Hitler, sexually harassing people, etc.). He was about 6'5" and could crush literally anyone who tried to stand up to him, and again, he wouldn't get punished because he was autistic. 5. He would, on multiple occasions, just stand behind my friends and I and just... Stare. It was disturbing and made us incredibly uncomfortable. 6. He would bring cooked spaghetti and put it in our hair and throw it at us. 7. He wore a Confederate Flag that he drew on his shirt every single day and was incredibly racist. He would say things like, "We need to go back to olden times when we could own the blacks, they're naturally inferior." and, "You know, economically Hitler was an idiot, but socially he was a genius, we need to follow his advice and burn those filthy Jews!" This was genuinely the worst person I've ever met, and the reason I don't use autism as an insult is because Jacob was the only autist I've ever met. [b][i]NOBODY is as bad as Jacob.[/i][/b]

I know how it is. I know people will mess around with these silly jokes. My brother has low-dose Asverger's Syndrome. It's not that noticable, but I do understand. I think when people think of Autism, they think of the small children who are incapable of being in the slightest independant. That's still not a joking matter though, since it's not their fault.

Medical terms have always been used as insults and that's not going to stop because people are to sensitive to words. My mother works with kids that have autism at an elementary school and and even she has called people autistic before.
