Just stop. Stop using autism as a put-down. As the parent of a daughter on the autism spectrum, its disheartening when ignorant people use it as a term of derision, not just these forums, but in everyday life. People on the spectrum process information in very unique ways, but also exhibit behaviors that typically minded folks may find odd. They can also exhibit uncanny genius--my daughter by age 5 knew world capitals better than most grownups, having an eidetic memory.
Unless you personally know someone affected by autism spectrum disorder (ASD) you don't know jack, & your digs are borne of spiteful indifference. So to all who would continue to do so, there goes your insensitive theory, plummeting out a high-rise window. Autism: different...not worse. **daughter Dylan drops mic/walks offstage**

I am an adult on the spectrum and using autism as an insult greatly disturbs me. Mostly because we seem to be moving backwards as a society in terms of accepting what we don't understand. However growing up my parents often used the phrase "you can't fix stupid" I do believe you CAN fix ignorance though. I mostly try to determine whether someone is ignorant or just plain stupid or malicious. If they're ignorant I will try to inform them if not they can rot in hell for all I care. I'm only making this post because some people here seem to get it and I would like to extend an invitation to my Xbox club Guardians of the Spectrum. We are a club for people with autism and their families to interact in a safe environment. Come check is out.

This post is gonna cringe me to death

Even autistic people use the word autistic in not the nicest of ways. Be it a joke or insult, everyone (even most autistic people) (should) know not to take it seriously. Kinda like the "it's cuz i'm black" thing going around. Or "what are you, gay?", or "no homo". Bashing on 12 year olds savagely. We were all twelve at least once, and if you haven't been yet, you will be. Insults are bad jokes that people find offensive because their ego is too fragile to handle it. Getting offended for a group you aren't part of, even if you interact with members of said group frequently, and have close relations, etc... if they aren't personally offended themselves, then what are you upset about? The first thing to do if they Are offended, is to build their confidence, and make their mind strong to withstand the torrent of insensitivity they feel victim of.
please reply via pm if you want to argue a point. I don't get notifications otherwise.
If someone says something offensive to you, just don't give a f*ck. Don't take it seriously, just know that they're the one in the wrong. You'll live your life a lot happier. My friend is 6'5" and Chinese, and she doesn't take no shits from anyone. She's completely different in looks from everybody yet she's one of the most respectable people I know. Long story short, sticks and stones.

I don't believe you are a parent. One you say you are a parent yet you end your argument with daughter Dylan drops the mic So are you saying you are Dylan? Not to mention a actual parent wouldn't post on a forum who doesn't really care about the argument. And most parents should know this, why should I rant about autism to people who are not going to change their lives. Most parents would be concerned but they won't go as far as preaching due to how busy their lives are with children and jobs. Yes I do believe autism is a negative cognitive word that is usual sly used as a joke or insult. Reason why is not because of the disease but the people who have it. There is numerous reports of people with autism having unusual behavior. People say what they see; you can't change a entire generation from where you are standing.

What are you a fgt?
-
Shouldn't have given your daughter that last round of vaccines at 6 months
-
What are you, autistic?
-
You forced my hand OP
-
Uh... Isn't the point of a put down to be as offensive as possible?
-
No. I will use whatever I want to use as an insult and everyone can get the -blam!- over it. I'd like to note that I have multiple friends with autistic siblings who don't give a shit. I don't live my life to dodge offensive words or phrases like a minefield. Something is offensive to everyone

See I've struck a nerve, glad its getting the discussion going. The 12 yr old rekt/savage sheeple comments aside, good to know different points of view. Understandable this goes to off topic where it belongs, but for something that affects so many but is stigmatized by so many more, what better place than here? What better time than now? For those who can carry on a civil discussion, plz continue... Thank you

It's amusing that people are like "I can say whatever" and arguments like that. They think they are so "cool" and "savage". Honestly, whenever you say that, you seem like a douche and probably are one.
-
Goes to show you, 40+ year olds shouldn't have kids.
-
Im offensive and i find this autistic
-
Time to "put down" some downies
-
OP is autistic
-
"Put-down" What is this, your elementary school pep rally?
-
Well that's a new one...I don't think I've ever heard or seen autism used during trashtalk

I AM THE AUTISTIC CONQUISTADOR

You're about 6 years too late for that fam. Once something becomes a meme it doesn't stop.
-
I agree that people need to stop. My cousin has it and he can remember anyone's license plate if he knows the person, it's pretty incredible.
-
I feel u bro. My best friend has it and I can't bare to watch him get bullied over it. I defended him to the point of physically ending the argument to help my friend. It has to stop so I don't have to spend my life with the principal
