The problem with Tether

Going through the IB this weekend with my warlock, I used Palpatine. Unlimited powaaah and all that. I activated my super and started frying the enemy team when I saw a hunter activate his super. I saw it was a bow and thought this was the end. His tether hit me right in the face. I could actually see it come right at me. But it did nothing. I ran through it like a Mack truck running over a squirrel. And the tether didn't latch onto me from where it was, now directly behind me. The poor Hunter seemed to just accept his fate, flabbergasted by what had occurred. How is this possible? Why didn't the tether immediately kill me or at least shut me down? I don't think Strormtrance has extra shielding. I've been able to shut a few down with regular weapons. Also, I don't think it was lag. My Xbox is directly wired to the modem. Approximately 100 down and 12 up. It was one of those super rare matches where mostly everyone was green bar. So what do yuse guise thinks? Heh? Edit: Lots of great ideas and suggestions. I'll try to spell out a synopsis of the feedback. Let's start with the initial encounter. A single shadowshot is not strong enough to kill a warlock using Stormtrance. Couple that with the possibility that the Hunter was a much lower light, I was 307 or 308. And that is how I tanked the hit. But then I escaped the tether. And this is where I feel it needs fixing. Even though I was moving in a straight line along the ground, I was fast enough to clear the shadowshot without it tethering me. As someone pointed out, it's possible the Hunter wasn't using black hole, which would have made the tether reach farther. So by the time it did activate, I was out of its reach. Whereas with black hole, it might have caught me. Either way, it seems broken. That leads us to examine this super's uses and how best to utilize them. Offensively. Whether it's one shot or 3, using shadowshot to kill enemies in the crucible with direct impact generally requires them to not be using their super. Roaming supers could possibly be killed by 2 or 3 shots using Quiver. But that is more risky and seems redundant. As well as it being used defensively instead of offensively. Perfect segue! Defensively. This is where I feel shadowshot fills it's role and what the Hunter was using it for but failed. In order to shut down my super, he should have placed it in front of me. Thus allowing me to run into it as it activated instead of away from it. It's still hokey. But unless Bungie changes it to instant activation, that's the best strategy. Shadowshot can also be used to close off choke points, slow down rushing enemies and tether enemies going for heavy ammo spawn. The key in all these scenarios is to lead your opponents. Be a step ahead and use strategic locations. Well I can't thank the community enough for helping out on this one. It's not a perfect answer but an answer nonetheless. Hopefully Bungie is sifting through the data and adjusts this super accordingly. Oh. Wait. It's Bungie. Maybe they'll just leave it alone and nerf fusion rifles instead. Feel free to leave any other strategies, tips or stories about using Shadowshot in the crucible. I only PvP in Iron Banner these days. No trials. No other crucible matches. So that's why my understanding is so limited with what happened. But I'm always eager to learn. Thanks again, fellow guardians, and take care. Edit 2: I accidentally responded to my post instead of editing the first time. Confounded buttons and technology and all that.

 • Interesting. I run crucible as a bladedancer because I had assumed that the Tether was completely useless in crucible. I guess it's inevitable people would try it because of sidestep. Maybe I'll rethink it. I've been trying to use blink to juke in front of people while getting close enough to shotgun/melee and people are just nailing me in the head while I hang in space for three seconds waiting for the blink to proc. I've had some success with using sidestep to zigzag up to people...
