That division symbol is confusing as -blam!-. Put 6 over all that shit and it becomes much less debatable.

The division symbol means that the denominator is the next singular object in the problem. With the way it's written, it is (6/2)(1+2)

No it isn't confusing at all, if you solve the equation as it's written you get 9.

I agree. Since OP set it up as 6÷2(1+2), I can't tell if he wanted 2(1+2) to be the denominator or not.

He was probably just assuming that everyone knew how to do math as it is tauten now. Methods of teaching math and other subjects change of the years
