EDIT: The answer could actually be 9. To know the true answer the equation would have to be given more detail.

You do what's in parentheses first.

The parenthesis become irrelevent when only one number is in it

Only the (3) is inside the parenthesis. 2•3 is not inside the parenthesis.

I know but he does the multiplication first. The parenthesis don't exist once the problem inside is solved

See the way i was told was always do the multiplication first. And the parenthesis act as a multiplication even after you did whatever was in there That's why i did the 2×3 to get six then ÷ 6 by the new 6. Math was never my strongest point honestly so maybe i do have it wrong.
