Of course. So the hive in the very beginning were not the hive. They were a very very weak race that was on the verge of extinction. That is when the traveler appeared to them. But also when the traveler appeared so did the worms. These worms were the living embodiment of the darkness, they are often referred to as the Ahmkara. Around this time three princess were reaching their prime and feeling the threat of the impending doom of their race they sought power to help them become strong. *On a note the average lifespan of these creatures was 10 years
At first they sought the travelers power but the worms contacted them first and convinced them that the Traveler was creating a massive world destroying wave to wipe out the weak Hive ( when in fact it was the worms manipulating them) these three princesses and sisters (Auryx, Savathun, and Xivu Arath) entered the deep aka darkness and sought out the worm, while there the worms wipe out their race.
After the sisters find the worms they learn of the destruction of their race and enraged accept the powers of the darkness.... and this next part I'm going to link an article that summarizes it better than I do. Then I will pick up afterwards http://gamerant.com/destiny-book-sorrow-oryx-taken-king/

I've finished reading, it's pretty interesting.
-
Btw did you catch the part about the Ecumenean? That was the name of the Forrunners before they were, wiped out? I believe that was what happened to them
-
They shared the name. It annoys me that Bungie is ripping off their own creation. :p
-
Some speculate they are one and the same but I don't see it tying in very well
-
Yeah, it's just a call out by Bungie as far as I'm concerned.
-
I'm not surprised honestly
-
Bungie: Who cares about Halo? You see that, we step on Halo, DESTINY is the real deal!
-
Well I'm sure they aren't too happy with the way that Microsoft kinda kicked them out. On top of that they were probably paying homage to the series
-
I believe they wanted to leave. I was just joking about them hating on Halo.
-
Ahh I see. I see
-
I'm still reading but I want to address something. How is it they are beyond the physical realm, yet the real which they come from is still physical?
-
They are beyond our real not the physical one. They create their own little pockets of space and dimension were they are the God, king, sovereign, it's almost like another part of the universe
-
It's still physical seeing as we can enter it. Plus their power in said realm can be usurped by the travelers light. But I understand what you mean.
-
Yes so unless the halo universe can access the light or become ascendant they can not access the Throne Realms
-
Edited by Edcub One: 2/23/2016 2:44:24 AMIdk, it's still a physical place. I fully believe Precursors would be able to ignore this as they have no connections to physics or our concepts. I'm not sure about Flood or Forerunners though. The Halos were able to kill Keyminds, who infected and took control of reality (I couldn't say if they could infect the Hive realms). But their are a number of interpretations about the events in the books, so I can't say for sure.
-
I see. Do the Precursors have any organic material in them?
-
They can give themselves physical forms.
-
Well that would make them susceptible to the Tablets of Ruin and Oryx ability to Take
-
I..highly doubt he could take a reality warper. Also they can negate physical attacks if they want. As shown when the Primordial survived a Halo pulse.
-
Hmm the way the Takeening ( i just made that term up) works is that Oryx shows whatever he is taking a release from themselves. He takes away their fear and replaces it with power and in doing so subjecting them to his Will. It works best on those with primordial fear, which tend to be anything. The only thing known to resist it are the dead/machine (so non living organisms) and beings filled with light
-
Edited by Edcub One: 2/23/2016 3:29:55 AMWell their is nothing that a Precursors has to fear. The group of Precursors in the Milky Way let the Forerunners kill them because they had never gone extinct before. Although some like the Primordial wanted to resist and were stopped by the rest of the Precursors.
-
Sooooo they don't fear death, destruction of their own race? The release of the flood?
-
Edited by Edcub One: 2/23/2016 3:40:34 AMThey are transcendent reality warpers, there is nothing that can kill them in the Halo universe (or any physical universe), not even the Halos themselves. Actually the Flood is The results of the remains of 1000 precursors who turned their bodies to dust to be restored at a later date being corrupted (supposedly it was the passing of 10 million years that corrupted the dust, but it may have also been the Primordial).
-
Huh fascinating. I wander what the vex would do with these guys because they successfully recreated Oryx in their image when they breached the Throne World. I wander if they could recreate the Precursor to further study and destroy it if necessary
-
Edited by Edcub One: 2/23/2016 3:50:15 AMThe peak of the Vex to my knowledge is them becoming one with the universe and being making their existence a law of physics. So I wouldn't think so as these beings are not based on time or space.
