From Russia with Void
Dawn was coming up. The forgotten shore was quiet, the only sound the humming of the wind through the carcasses of the rusting boats.
Two guardians where hiding on a small edge of a cliff. More alert than necessary. Checking their surroundings for movement, caves for emerging Fallens, or the sky to control that passing fallen dropships did not head towards them.
- Pfff…. I hate patrols on the forgotten shore. I mean… There was that time with that vandal… but.. apart from that one time…Nothing ever happens.
- So? Can’t we enjoy a quiet day for one, Domino? I think we deserve it. We’ve gone on countless missions recently, and lost one guardian in the process. I think it’s more than time we got some small jobs to do and can take it easy.
- Geez Felix… you sure you’re a titan?
Before Felix could answer, gunshots erupted somewhere not too far from their positions. The two guardians immediately readied themselves and starting scanning the area again for the provenance of the sounds.
- There, that sparrow, coming down from the terrestrial complex!
- I see it, said Domino, sniper already in position.
The sparrow was followed by several pikes and heavy pikes, hell progressively breaking lose on the solitary guardian. Said guardian did not seem to mind though, maneuvering his sparrow with dexterity, slaloming between rocks and shipwrecks, tracing back and forth in what seems, to the two guardians observing, a very illogical pattern.
- What the hell is he doing? grunted Felix.
- I don’t know, but he’s not helping. I can’t get a clean shot, answered Domino.
Then, after a last evasive manoeuver and a sharp turn in between two shipwrecks, the guardian found himself somehow facing most of his pursuers.
- That doesn’t look g… Holy … started Felix
In a swift movement perfectly executed, the guardian jumped in the air, glided a bit so as to be on top of the group of fallen, and unleashed a Novabomb on top of the still cheering Fallens who thought they were closing in for the kill. Needless to say, there was very little to celebrate left for the few surviving Fallens in the aftermath of the warlock super…
While the remnants of the Fallen party retreated, the warlock landed softly on the ground, summoned his sparrow, and slowly left, heading in direction of the closest transmat zone. A faintly but yet audible whistled tuned carried by the wind could be heard as he did so…
