It's not the same for time spent in a game because it's not essential for anything
Grimoire is a meaningless "add on" to destiny's time consuming grind and you either do it because you're a nerd and want it or you have nothing better to do

You are assuming you have to ACTIVELY seek grimoire for it to go up. You don't. Simply play the game, and over time you will rack it up from doing things over your time played.

If you want a high grimoire than yes you do have to actively seek it
