Remember your Pillars, Bungie?

Pillar 1: A World Players Want to Be In Jason Jones: "This pillar really influenced us early in development. Is this world cool? Do I want to stay here? Do I want to learn more about it?” Joseph Staten: "One lesson that’s critical is that the most important stories we tell aren’t going to be told by us. They’re going to be told by players – their personal legends built from shared adventures.” Pillar 2: A Bunch of Fun Things to Do (after describing a three-man dungeon run in detail): Joseph Staten: “And just like that, The Dust Palace becomes part of my story. The breadth and depth of Destiny’s world encourages me to find my own adventures. It’s a place where I can leave my mark.” Pillar 3: Rewards Players Care About Jones explained how the game will have “a lot of great things to earn, find, and make,” reiterating that “everything you do in Destiny earns rewards.” Besides unique weapons, every piece of your kit will be your own, from your helmet to your cape to your armor pieces to your face. Their goal, he said, is to keep players coming back “day after day, week after week, month after month, [and] year after year.” Pillar 4: A New Experience Every Night Jason Jones: “Imagine you could spend an hour and accomplish something, but you get distracted from doing the thing you meant to do when you logged on. Every time you sit down to play Destiny you have a different experience than last time.” Pillar 5: Shared With Other People Jason Jones: “Everything that’s fun to do is more fun to do with your friends.'” Pillar 6: Enjoyable By All Skill Levels Jason Jones: "All core activities can be enjoyed by a novice player, that's not hard. What’s hard is keeping it interesting for your advanced players.” Pillar 7: Enjoyable by the Impatient and Distracted Jason Jones: “Players don’t want to work hard, they don’t want to read, and they don’t’ want to go to the Internet to figure out our bullshit.” This is the foundation that Destiny was laid on, I pulled this directly from Destinypedia which is why you see the quotes on each one. I'm sure that anyone who reads this can take from it what has or hasn't been held up by Bungie. These pillars are your promise and I'm sure that you may have gotten overwhelmed during the process of this game's short lifespan and even during it's conception, but you have been on a very bumpy road. If you look on these forums, you will see that the gamers aren't happy and they want to see this game to succeed but you continue to kill it in as many ways as you can think of, all while ignoring those who want to do something to help. They're words have fallen on deaf ears over and over just as this ultimately will have, and due to your ignorance and their frustration you will lose their support for this 'continuous' world that you have tried to build. If you see this post and read this forum, then you know what 'needs' to be done to save this game. It's ultimately your choice in how you will progress and our choice to stop having anything to do with you. This is where you'll receive your backing, or this is where you'll lose it. I hope you choose right Bungie. Repost this to try and get Bungie's attention. Edited to look prettier.

  • Bungie need to be reminded that this game was marketed as a PvE game, so the majority of people that own it are casual players. Funny how optional matchmaking across all activities hasn't keeps appearing and the quickly vanishing from the forums threads! Why isn't it on the priority fix list at least? Despite you not wanting to cater for the majority of your players, this is the main reason you have lost so many casual's to other games! When they invest money in a game..in Destiny's case, a lot of money, they expect access to all content in the game. Casual's are important to flesh out the numbers in both PvE and PvP, it prevents games being too sweaty all the time. The lack of casual's is why every crucible match is so try hard, because that's all that's left! So what if they take longer to complete Raids, they will learn eventually like we all did once and make friends along the way. So what if the get their rear ends handed to them in Trials...at least they had the choice to try! and more people may make it to the Lighthouse. I play all content and have many friends that I have found by taking part in Raids and Nightfalls etc. it doesn't matter how you get into the activity (LFG or Matchmade) we make friends this way. I have seen many people leave due to the lack of OPTIONAL matchmaking, once people invest time in another game they never come back. I love this game and am resisting leaving in the blind hope that more of the community wish list will be implemented sooner rather than later, but its too late for a large number of casual, and that number grows daily. I hope Activision know this is why they are losing so much revenue? Can you just let us know what you will be implementing and what is not possible until D2? Thats all we ask. I ask in hope knowing that our community managers are powerless to comment and most probably even acknowledge this post.

Seeing this brings tears to my eyes. What we were promised for nearly 2 years and what we actual got, are two radically different products. I think back, to that cold February 2013 morning when I watched this live on my PS3. I remember in vivid detail, how excited I was for Destiny, how I truly, honestly believed it would be the game to end all games. The game that would shatter records. Then I bought the game, and although I enjoy playing it, what we got was an empty shell while the yolk was destroyed long before release, by corporate greed and bad decisions.

        • If they are able to look at that, remember this was their mission statement to the gaming community and go forward keeping that in mind the experience of playing this game will improve in the future. I'm on break from the game currently. Not so much, because I have any hatred towards Bungie or the game, but rather because I've put some time in and need to focus myself in other places. However, I look forward to 2017. I hope, as a company and crew they are able to take the game in it's current form as a map of what to do and not to do. It's far from a secret that they've done a host of things wrong in this one but they've done a lot of things right as well. As long as they can build from those, founding them on the pillars you've mentioned it could be a really good experience.

          • Unless this new expansion somehow fixes more than half the crap they've broke since HoW (besides promised content), I really only see 3 futures for Bungie: 1.) Aborting or constantly delaying Destiny 2 and focusing primarily on Destiny 1 via Expansions/DLC/Microtransactions. 2.) Aborting Destiny 1 completely and focusing on Destiny 2, which will most likely lead to number 3. 3.) Losing rights or unable to sustain Destiny 1 due to enraged fanbase or Activision, along with shutting down production for Destiny 2 due to lack of funds or lack of playerbase.
