Lives of ARC Chapter 11: Cat and Mouse

"Do we ever get a day off?" asked Edward, quickly pacing back to the apartments. "We did yesterday..." answered Haxx. "Well technically we had to work yesterday, but we got off early." Edward looked to Haxx before knocking on a door. Edward waited for a second before pressing against the wall. The sound of a shotgun echoed through the hall. "My girl is not going out today!!" yelled Drake. "Drake it's me, well, us! Open the d*** door!" The door swung open, revealing Drake holding a shotgun. "You didn't say please!" Edward dodged a slug that knocked a hole in the wall. He snatched Drake and looked at him, eye to eye. "I am truly pissed off with you..." Edward threw Drake out the door, over the edge of the Tower. "Gale, let's go, gear on!" Edward looked around the room. "Hmph... I'm trying to sleep!" echoed in the room. Edward glanced back to Haxx. "Not a morning person..." Edward knocked on her bedroom door. "Go away!" Edward walked in and shook Gale's shoulders. Gale sat up and looked at Edward. She tried to blow her hair out of her face, then proceeded to pull it back. "What? Can't you see that I am trying to get my beauty sleep?" "Yes, I can. Most not have been sleeping for too long either." answered Edward. Gale gave him a shove. "What's up?" "Get dressed. We got to go." "Ed, if this is another 'Cabal invasion of Mars' bulls***, I'm not going." "No, no. This is real." The three armored Guardians headed back to the Hall of Guardians. "Now that we are all here, what are we looking for?" asked Edward standing in attention. "The House of Exile are typically a quiet House, learning from the Hive. Recently, they have been increasingly active. We have no idea what they are doing, so we need you three to watch them and report back to us." Commander Zavala stared at the map of the moon. "Yes, Sir." shouted the three Guardians before leaving. "The House of Exile? Who are they?" asked Gale as they walked past the vaults. "It's a House mostly comprised of banished Fallen, outcasts from any and all Houses." Haxx quickly answered. "What do you think got them stirred up?" asked Edward. "Probably scavenging what's left of the House of Winter." answered Haxx again. "Just couldn't wait to get back out there, Guardians?" Amanda tapped codes and passwords on her holo-tablet. "Yes, Ma'am. We got an axe to grind with the Fallen." Edward watched three starfighters rise out of the floor. Everyone boarded their ships and launched. The Guardians had a three minute trip before staring at the moon. "Five glimmer says that their is at least one piece of cheese on the surface..." Edward looked out his cockpit to Gale and Haxx. "Deal.." "Deal.." The Guardians landed near an old base, a large pipeline loomed overhead. The lack of atmosphere made the environment silent and motionless. "Look, there's Mars." said Edward looking up. "I believe there is a Crucible tournament there..." "What do you have in mind?..." asked Gale growing slightly concerned. "I plan to scare the s*** out of someone..." Edward pulled out a sniper. He stared into space for a minute before pulling the trigger. "It may be a while before anything happens..." Edward put the sniper rifle on his back. Meanwhile on Mars, a Warlock had collected the spark. Titans and hunters alike cleared his path. Running, running, running, the warlock approached the rift. Titans threw hammers clearing the rift of defenders. The warlock spun around, did a back flip, about to drop the spark in the rift, but a random bullet from the sky killed him. The warlock respawned, the point did not count. "What the h*** was that?! That was bulls***!! Rift for Iron Banner was a f***ing stupid idea anyways!!" A hunter walked up beside the warlock. "You were assassinated by God!!" exclaimed the hunter. "Shut... up!" Back on the moon, Edward was still watching Mars disappear below the horizon. "Hmm. I guess we'll never know..." "Shall we continue with the mission?" asked Gale. "Sure." "No Eliksni in the area. I suggest moving to the Anchor of Light." Haxx scanned the land around them. The team jumped on sparrows and started the engines. They drove to across the grey terrain, jumping natural ramps. Before them, a large cylindrical base loomed. "This is where the House of Exiles live, but no signs of them... anywhere.." Edward looked around, the facility was barren as far as the eye could see. "Tracking will be impossible here. If we find a footprint, we couldn't tell if it were fresh or not. It would look the same." Gale studied the dust. "Where else would they go?" asked Edward. "They already dwell in the caves and temples, so something abnormal that we would detect would be on the surface." Haxx looked to C.P. "C.P. is detecting small seismic activity. It is close but we can't pinpoint the epicenter." "Okay, that's a step closer. We know that there are thousands walking in sync or they are moving large pieces of equipment..." said Edward. "So, they are massing an army." Gale nodded. "An army? A battle? An adventure!" exclaimed Kelly. "Easy, easy. We still have to find them first." Edward patted his ghost. "I'm ready for an adventure..." said Drake appearing over Gale's shoulder. Haxx led Edward and Gale to the Hell Mouth. C.P. constantly gave them notifications about new, rapid vibrations. "Sir! The vibrations have ceased! Whatever the Fallen are doing, we'll miss it!" Haxx turned around to look at Edward. "Then let's gun it!" Edward pushed the throttles forward. The Guardians came over the crater wall into the Hell Mouth. Ahead of them, the Silent Hand flew from the surface. Edward, Gale, and Haxx watched as the ship flew over them and activate it's jump drive. "D*** it." Edward took a deep breath. "I hope they are going to Venus. If not, then, we.. we lost 'em." "Whelp, back to the ships..." Gale spun around and led the group back. Haxx was already in orbit around the moon, waiting for the other two. Edward was stilling packing gear back into his ship. Gale walked up behind him. "Guess what?" "What?" Edward leaned up turned around. "It's not the House of Winter we have to worry about. You don't have to worry about Braxis killing me." Gale tapped her her helmet against Edward's. Edward watched in silence as Gale walked to her ship. He looked down before turning back to the ship. "Could you start the engines, please?" Edward looked to Kelly. "Yes, Daddy." Kelly disappeared and prepped the engines. "Is everything.. okay?" Edward snapped back into reality. "Hmm? Oh, yeaaah. Just thinking..." Edward and Gale joined Haxx in orbit. No one knew for sure where to go, just going off of gut instinct. "Set coordinates for Venus. Charlie 2,7,8,5. Epsilon 18, 5, 7, 6." Edward barked out the directions. "Wait! A message is coming through." exclaimed Haxx. "A news bulletin has just come in! During Iron Banner, a warlock was killed by a rogue bullet from 'outer space'! He would've won the game for Bravo Team but he was killed just before he could get the spark in the rift." the announcement was broadcasted in all of their ships. "Well then... Let's just go to Venus..." Edward switched the toggles on his ship.
