So Bungie All But Confirms P2P Is Real ... Why Bungie? Just Why?
In the weekly update, along with a couple of suspicious lines that I personally fear are yet more lies came a couple of lines that all but confirmed Bungie runs the gameplay itself off of P2P connectivity. Networking Engineer Paul Lewellen is the one to open that specific can of worms, lag has been an issue since day 1 and although I will give Bungie some credit for reducing the latency as much as they have, albeit rare cases. That does not excuse the fact that the game runs off of P2P connectivity and its caused endless amounts of frustration, unfair plays and downright stupid moments of impossibiility within the crucible since day 1. Which by the way we have all complained about and rightfully so.
Bungie there is a good reason, a very good reason why P2P connectivity is banned within PC games, its because it doesn't work. It may work on small time games that run a very low amount of players with minimal stress on the systems operating it, but not on a current gen game worth $500M with over 25M registered users across the two biggest selling consoles of the open era.
Here is the line I am referring too ... The connection bars we show in-game are designed to give you a moment-to-moment idea of how good or bad each player's connection is to all other players in the game (not to our servers). ... That last part in brackets is where I meant suspicious lines that I fear are lies.
They also go on to basically blame us for our connectivity, I am sorry ... What? ... If I may ask you this question, when you go to the park to play a game of sport with your friends, do you bring the grass to play on and lay it all out, or the concrete to lay the court out? The white paint to draw the lines in and the nets? No, you bring yourself and normally what it is to be played with, a ball of some kind .. So tell me, why should we have to bring the field to play on Bungie? You are the only company I have ever known to ask that of its player base, for the way you have treated us through the first 16-18 months of this game, that is a very low blow and extremely cheap.
