My reasons...
breathing new life in the franchise and sending forth an avalanche of new movies
I love star wars but if things stayed the same way without Disney
Like it or not we would not have the amount of films coming our way rather than the 3 films in new trilogy and speaking of that.
new direction and fans taking over
If George Lucas was to make the new trilogy if Disney didn't buy Lucas film, it would be a bit shit. Don't forget, this is not 'I made the original trilogy' George Lucas no... I'm talking about 'I made the prequels and jar jar binks is my favourite character' George Lucas.
And also...
Producers like JJ Abrams grew up with star wars, all of those kids who grew up with the force before the 2000s are all grown up. And some are able to direct a film or write a book or game about their beloved franchise.
And with the result of the force awakens stuff won't get sloppy.
why wiping out the EU was a good idea
I know the expansiveness of the legends universe was large but don't forget, (ever since splinter of the minds eye in 1978) it had over 36 years to develop!
The new canon had only 2 years with the help of the clone wars.
And look at all the books, comics, games and anthology films.
And how bad it was going to be if your trying to make the new trilogy even though by that time period, in the EU its the yuzhang vong war. Or with rouge one being an adaptation of the story of how they got the plans from a tattoo on a bald guy and if force awakens was an adaptation of legacy of the force.
And why they nuked all of it? I think it's too make films based in the (new) old republic era without being tied down with KOTOR or SWTOR lore.
And see it as a new way of telling a new story of star wars, don't forget the EU happened in a different time line. The expended universe is so large that the smallest continuity error would shatter the entire universe.
it's logical from a business standpoint
Star wars is one of the biggest franchise in all of fiction and if you put into Disney's mindset when they purchased it they had the intention of milking the cash cow, its how businesses like these works. You find something lucrative and of its worth giving a try, you use it to its maximum potential.
are you a Disney fanboi?
No...
But I am a bit daunted by the fact that Disney is a bloody entertainment juggernaut.
Edit: the ½B8 is real

I just think it's weird that some people care so much about a made up universe.
-
Edited by ClusiveC: 2/10/2016 2:34:10 AMLet's get rid of the one thing that kept Star Wars alive, the EU. EDIT: Seriously though. Let's set TFA aside and look at what we have for 'canon' Star Wars. Three old, dry movies that are, frankly, boring. Three newer prequels that hardly anybody likes. A cartoon catered towards a generation that did not grow up with Star Wars. Everything else would, technically, be the EU. SWTOR. KOTOR. The FOTJ novels, the Legacy era entirely, New Sith Wars, GHW, Force Unleashed, etc. I could go on and on.
-
As long as they keep George Lucas far away its fine with me.
-
Put the final nail in the coffin for any chance of another single player kotor for the foreseeable future, so fück disney
-
Idk it scares me slightly that Disney owns it. I'm hoping they don't make the star wars movies bland and formulaic like marvel movies. I liked episode 7, I did; and I understand why they played it safe too by making it like episode 4 but I hope they don't make episode 8 like empire. Luke needs to fight or show his true power in the force I don't want him to be like yoda, a Jedi hermit offering sage advice and teachings. I hope Disney doesn't mess with us(star wars fans) and make star wars progressively bad cause they wanna make it for all people.
-
I loved the clone wars and I wasn't sad that it ended, I was sad on how it did end. With rebels, people are saying its bad but in fact it is decent. Yes it was more like a kids show but look at the clone wars in the 1st and second season. And rebels relies less on already established characters with the odd cameo of lando or another character. And like clone wars they make new characters in the universe and expand on their stories.
-
They did make some major -blam!- ups though. Took a huge shit on both Clone wars and the Force unleashed at once with the existence of Rebels, and gave the gaming rights to EA.
-
TL;DR
-
I'm ok with Disney owning Star Wars but they made some dumb mistakes like: *Canceling SWTCW for SWR. *Killing off most of the EU *Not helping that settlement I marked on their map Disney can be frustrating but at least they did not ruin the franchise.
-
With the exception of shitting on Lucasarts.
-
They shouldn't have canceled clone wars but other than that it was a fine purchase
-
Pixar should have bought it.
-
Only bad thing I have about Disney is the fact that they cancelled the Clone Wars and Rebels is too kiddy.
forget about Rey being a Mary Sue what about that blue haired 12 year old fighting grown ass men with a lightsaber
I'm annoyed that of everything they could have kept as canon, they chose to keep the two animated TV shows. I'm not a fan of Rebels, and Clone Wars, while admittedly fairly decent (especially later on), messed with the lore in ways I really didn't like. It managed to make General Grievous and Boba Fett both absolutely pathetic. And Rebels did something similar to characters like Bossk. Otherwise I'm fine with the franchise's direction so far. TFA was amazing, and I'm excited for what comes next. Just make a few more good games and I'll be perfectly content
-
Nope. They nuked The Clone Wars way to early. Season 6 wasn't even finished yet. I'd love to see it go into the prologue of Episode III. They replaced it with garbage. Animation style terrible and downgraded its intended audience. The Clone Wars was meant for young and old audiences, while Rebels is mostly young children. Not to mention the scripting us awful. To many terrible puns.
-
The only thing I don't like about it is the fact it FŪCKING ENDED STAR WARS THE CLONE WARS!!!
-
I am happy with it, as well. Of course they are going to milk it like Marvel, but at least its quality entertainment. I actually agree with the dismissing the EU as non-canon, so they can pick and choose what will be.
-
I'm not really against the purchase except for what Disney has done with the video games they closed Lucas arts and sold the license to ea! Ea! Why why?
-
*cough cough your opinion is worthless cough cough*
-
I like the new movie and understand the removal of EU but they really should've let the force unleashed remain intact since it closes the gap between 3 and 4. Now we have another 30 year gap between 6 and 7. Hope they come up with some cool stuff to close that gap with.
-
Good thing? Yes. Best thing? Ehhh ...
-
I have three words for you, OP. Star Wars Rebels. Your point is invalid, you...
TRAITOR!
-
I wish they kept the EU from before the movies, and only got rid of that which came after the movies.
