Motion sickness from games

Have you ever experienced it? Just this morning, I eagerly downloaded The Witness, Jonathan Blow's follow-up to 2008 indie hit Braid. But within maybe an hour of playing, I was feeling incredibly ill. The game's lack of music (so far) didn't help, but primarily it was something to do with the visual presentation. I've been looking into it a bit, and it can apparently be affected by things such as distance from the display and FOV... My distance is perfectly fine, according to several sources, but I've no idea if the FOV is limited. One more thing I suspect it might be is the lack of 'player appendage' onscreen. It's usually a gun, and I guess it usually helps me somehow. Another game that lacked such an object was PS Plus puzzle-adventure Ether One. It's exactly the same kind of game: first-person, extremely limited HUD to the point where it's absent most of the time, silky smooth but sluggish by default movement. So yeah. I wonder if there's any way for me to offset the nausea or anything. Apparently Mirror's Edge had a reticle for just that purpose. And I've heard that chewing ginger can help. Any advice? Any stories? I also tend to get it with a lot of first-person PC games. Edit: Blow is aware of it and working on a solution. Thank gods.

  • There's 2 games I mainly play right now, and 1 of them....it doesn't cause motion sickness but...idk...I guess I sometimes have a hard to like...following the camera movement or ...like....feel dizzy if I move it around to much. The 2 games are halo 5, and bloodborne. Oddly enough, it's bloodborne that causes this to happen. There's a few parts of the game where the framerate drops hella low as well and turning the camera while also trying to get to a spot while everything is going on plus the frame rate drop, I get even more out if the loop. Maybe halo 5s 60fps has made me so used to that, that when I play stuff on lower framerate I get a disoriented feeling. I don't ever feel sick though.
