And by leaving I ONLY mean pressing the buttons to "Go to Orbit"
I watched countless Rift matched my daughter was playing where all it took was a slight lead from the other team for people to start leaving.
It's quite simple to deter.
If you 'Give up" on a match you also "give up" ANYTHING Gained and/or acquired from the match. I repeat...ANYTHING:
XP (Class/Subclass Progress)
Reputation
Glimmer
Weapon/Armor Progress
Mission/Bounty Progress/Completions
All Stat Progress
(Anything else?)
I reiterate that this is "Go to Orbit" triggered only. If someone wants to disconnect themselves from the internet to do this (restart game, Log back in, Re-queue up) then so be it. That's a lot of time and work to just quit a round.
I understand that this seems like a harsh consequence but leaving is the middle of a round should not be a valid 'tactic' to avoid a loss.
Sure maybe there's a family Emergency or something but I bet that whatever 'valid' reason for leaving far outweighs what could have been earned in a game round.
EDIT: Some replies and clarifications that came up in topic:
- It's not meant to deter everyone. If you feel a pending loss is still worth leaving despite losing anything gained that round then more power to you. As long as the consequence is understood.
- Real Life always comes first. If something really important came up it's probably worth more than whatever you were gaining in game.
- For cases of: Matchmaking fail (entering a badly loosing round), Dislike Map, too many Red Bars, Same Map in a row, you are a Red Bar...30 seconds (or some short timeframe OR before you score any kills/points) to leave a match you just joined with no penalty.
- Alternate system. limited 'quits' per week. When limit is reached there is a 10 min (or some timeframe) ban from playing PVP.
-
Nah I rather they leave and let people who want to play and contribute join in. You want everyone going afk instead?
-
They can't because the game is made for children.
-
If they leave early from an IB match they're losing out on medallions and drops.
-
If they removed kd % no one would have a reason to leave....that's all it is is "oh my kd going down on this match cya!!"

Edited by DSRT976: 1/26/2016 4:26:02 PMSince 2016 if i see, that after 30 sec we are losing 1500 to 300, or i was sent in the middle of the fight to losing team with 12000 to 4000... i'll leave the match. Just because i'm tired of this "great" SBMM and my unskilled partners or overskilled opponents. This game supposed to be fun, not devastating disappointment, like this hidden "under the hood" tweaks.
-
What if I really need a piss or suddenly I feel sick. Last thing you want is an afk player giving the enemy team free points, better that they quit and let someone else join.
-
Drop me into first light and I'm out of there. That map should have been left behind.
-
Only if I'm guaranteed not to be in a red bar hero lobby. Otherwise, I'm quitting to orbit. I have no time for laggy games.
-
Edited by Kone19ps: 1/26/2016 12:16:10 AMThere is no distinction between going to orbit and being kicked to orbit. It isn't in he programming to track it differently most likely
-
Yes... more rules and regulations are needed in any fun activity.
-
I disagree. I used to stay in matches to fight it out but fighting with 3 people against full sweaty team of six is no fun. I also hate being put into matches where everybody has supers and heavy. I had match last week where I was killed 8 times in a row by supers and heavy before I could move for the first time.
-
I can agree for maybe the banner. Sorry if you said this I didn't read any of your post. Lol but in normal crucible no way.
-
What if players lag out?
-
90% of the people leaving matches are kicked to orbit due to zoo. EVERY time I play Destiny, PVE or PVP, I get kicked to orbit multiple times even with my 50+ mps Internet. I think you are placing blame on the wrong people here.
-
What if you get booted out of a match? Sometimes people don't want to leave but blam hit with the good Ole baboon or some other stupidly named error. People shouldn't be penalized for it.
-
I've been put in games when my team is losing 3X the point. But I usually stick it out. I even pop a 3OC. And sometimes I get better legendary rolls and rewards. Banning isn't really the solution. Cos power or internet could go out at anytime. I say rewards should be given to both losing and winning teams. I'm sure some try hards will hate the idea but I think it would serve as a deterrent for quiters when they know win or lose doesn't really matter. AND It would be nice to throw quiters back into the same match or if they choose a different mode into a match that has a losing team. I'm not trying to force anyone but I'm trying to encourage team spirit. Just stick it out. It's only for a while. Wining isn't always every thing.
-
I feel your pain but I never and I mean never see red more than when I have to backpack my whole team of thumbless idiots only to lose when I have more than half my whole teams points by myself.. That plus the rewards system sucks so bad and how it doesn't properly reward effort or skill makes the game not worth my sanity or the effort
-
When I'm playing iron banner I am often put onto a team that's in the middle of a match and thats losing by quite a bit. Since all of Destiny is a grind and you only get credit for wins in IB why would I ever want to stay in that game other than to finish a bounty? While I understand your frustration since we have all been there it's not going to deter those who do it.
-
I like the halo reach temp ban. You can leave 1 or 2... But much more and you get a timed ban. Not bad.
-
I will quit whenever the hell I want. You can suck it if you don't like it. You and your draconian "consequences" can go take a flying leap. Of all the things wrong with this game, of all the issues that should be resolved, you pick something as inconsequential as this to harp on. Man, oh man. Talk about screwed up priorities.
-
What if i get the rumblies in my tummy that means a dark force is about to descend upon my bathroom and i am needed to fight the good fight. PUSH ONWARD!!
-
Why do you care if someone leaves? Because it ruined your chances of winning? What exactly do you get from a win that you don't also get from a loss? Nothing. Win, loss, it's all hollow.
-
I think they should ban does people who leave matches
-
Its simple.. Let it count as a loss every time a person leaves.. Thats it... They were going to lose wether they stayed or left right? Well it should just count as a loss if they leave a match... Nothing more.. Nothing less... Problem solved
-
Agreed. They wanna avoid the loss. I'd normally spew some profanity about these cowardly maggots, but out of respect for your daughter, I'll refrain. But, there definitely needs to be consequences for bailing mid-match.
-
that's idiotic and pointless.
