This short forum is about gold chests, key chests, and finding dead ghosts. To save time a lot of Youtube vids will be posted here.
Gold chests differ from normal chests as they have set loot. They are also limited to five, currently, to each planet/moon.
Earth → 5 total
Moon → 5 total
Venus → 5 total
Mars → 5 total
Dreadnaught → no gold, but several key chests
This set loot is based off of the time/level you should of found these. A max level toon will not benefit as much from these chest as a level 3-15. Two items a max level will get out of finding these now: (1) Strange Coin and (1) class specific sparrow. You get the coin on Mars and the sparrow from Earth.
Below is the video from Youtube that is very well done. If starting a new toon this would be good to watch so your toon can benefit from these chests. The creator uses missions to go and find these chests and his logic makes sense by using quest markers, but I will note that all, but maybe one or two can be found on patrols.
One would be the last chest on the moon. You will have to do the strike to get into boss room, as this is the only time it opens. But it is quick and painless, 15minutes with a good team.
On Mars one chest is located in the subway area. The mission takes you right to it, but if you are like me and patrol for it, it will take some time. One silver lining to this is I had the Vex ultra and champion bounty the day I went looking for this chest and the outer court of the subway has five of these guys and spawn rates are high. Not to also mention the Taken were attacking and I was able to fulfill that bounty as well.

Topic: Calcified Fragments (Update) First the obvious; out of 50, 45 are needed for the "Touch of Malice". They are scattered around the Dreadnaught, found in the raids, found in Nightfalls (Dreadnaught only), Court of Oryx, and from the Dreadnaught only bounties. The first post on Fragments below will show you all locations minus the hidden ones. Hidden Fragments; First two → Complete Nightfalls that are Dreadnaught strikes. The only two are the Shield Brothers and Darkblade. Once you complete these you should get one from each. Second batch → Dreadnaught Bounties. As you kill or do certain things on the DN, you will be given a bounty that you can only complete on the DN. There are several of these. There are also several sets. Each set gives you one at the end. Seems each set is 4 quests total. I notice I get a fresh set by completing Court of Oryx. These do not have to be completed in the Court, and some require you to go to other locations to do. Finishing a set should reward you a fragment, and just like getting chest keys, the bounty given is random. Third Batch→ Court of Oryx. Completing court based bounties, killing bosses (certain ones), and doing the weekly Antiquated Rune boss will reward one. So get to the court and start using runes and bring a fireteam or jump in with others. The Antiquated rune boss changes weekly, make sure to down them and collect the frag. Once you have the frag from that boss, you will not receive another. You will have to wait until the following week for the boss change out. I believe there are three or four level 3 bosses here. And make sure to just keep killing. Notes: Like dead ghosts, a good portion you can get on patrol. The one found on shield brothers, you can get my jumping over the door in that engine room to the hallway leading to the bridge. Also there is an Ultra Knight here, use a three of coins and get a chance at an exotic. Another example of patrol grabs would be the darkblade. Go to the founts and you will find three wardens. Kill all three within ten second of each other and the door opens, allowing you to collect the two hidden back there. This move is also needed for the sword quest if you haven't done this yet. The few further back in this area will require the strike to collect. Should do it for this update...but I'm not finished. The lore behind the fragments in the grimoire is amazing. For those looking for the backstory of the hive and taken, this is your spot. Believe it or not Oryx is not Oryx and the story here opens up so much that Bungie can work with in future expansions. Go, read, enjoy. I'm finished now.
