I knew it! Bungie introduced skill based matchmaking without telling us over the holidays.
I wasn't some crazy conspiracy theorist after all. Did they think players wouldn't notice?
Let me be straight, I literally cannot stand the new matchmaking system. Every match is a stressful nightmare to the point where I no longer find the Crucible enjoyable.
Don't get me wrong, a sweaty game now and then is fun; but when every single game is sweaty, it makes the Crucible feel like a chore.
I want to hop in and play for fun to relax. I spend hours every week studying for my PhD and use the Crucible to chill out in the evening; you know, do a few bounties and play some Control.
In fact, a good case could be made that the Crucible is now more unbalanced than ever before as a consequence. Previously, players would encounter Guardians from across the skill spectrum; some would be better, some worse, some the same skill level as you (giving everyone the opportunity to have fun, but also to improve).
Now I find myself consistently matched into losing teams against high skill players (or at least that's how it always feels from my perspective). It's just not fun; it doesn't feel right any more.
Bungie should prioritise connection over skill imho. Not only does the SBMM take ages to find a game, match you half through a game into the struggling team, and make every game a stressful experience; it also increases the lag problems in the Crucible. It was a strange move by Bungie.
I honestly don't think I'll go back into the Crucible in its current state :-( .

When i go in solo i end up mid game half the time. Lag occurs 90 percent of the time. Games are not fun, im forced to use "meta" weapons. I constantly get quickscoped by snipers 5 feet away. I sometimes play on my friends character with a .5 kd just for fun games. BUNGHOLE FIX YOUR GAME
-
Lag must be fixed, the skill-based matchmaking results in games being decided by connection status; it's a joke.
-
It was a bad idea in the first place, bad players can't improve if they only play other bad players. Sometimes it takes losing to learn.
-
I'm just noticing WAY more lag
-
I like the concept of it. But the execution was like every other Destiny tweek. Premature and untested. We should only be the test subjects for weapons and armor and feedback. Not things that are reliant on connection from across the world. Not every match is full of lag but there is at least one red bar in every match. Connection should be top priority. Introduce dedicated servers THEN skill based.
-
But: can't you enjoy a game where you have to focus and be smart and play well? I can 😀
-
The only problem with skill matching is the terrible latency it has created. Every match SHOULD be close.
-
ummm I'm a sweaty pvp player on the xb1 and I can't stand this matchmaking either nor the garbo connections tbh. I mean I match peshy gabe and war whenever they do pubs and stuff, but the funny thing is that my kd is still increasing by a lot soooo question mark? Sure my monthly kd isn't as high as before (AVG k/d: 4-5 and now: 3-4) but yeah I kind of miss the nooby players so that I can get a big multi-kil with a sniper or something like that and put it in my montages tbh.
-
Doesnt surprise me that they pulled this bullshit. I had a feeling that all the patches since launch werent telling us everything, and it turns out that feeling was somewhat right. Bungie is now, a pitiful example of what happens when greed and incompetency takes over. Nice job bungie.
-
Honestly if they don't tweak the matchmaking to prioritize good connection over skill until the February update, I'm not sure that I'll continue to play Destiny until then. Yes the fact that every playlist is essentially a ranked playlist is annoying and sweaty, but it's the abundance of poor connection that is driving me away. Why should I have to suffer because other players are in yellow and red bar? Because YOUR in red bar, I shouldn't be able to pick up special or heavy ammo? Or reliably damage you? Hell no, it's getting ridiculous now.
-
Yeah and I'm pretty tired of seeing people try their a##es off and going 8-21 and sitting in the back of the map tbh.
-
One ranked playlist with SBMM and one normal with CBMM. NO one would play the ranked one other than the tryhards and the noobs.
-
They should put skill based with connection based and make dedicated servers.
-
Oh Bump this to the gates of heaven. PvP has been ruined by the SBMM.
-
Connection based is what it should be.
-
I posted about this matter over a month ago. It was actually obvious.
-
Also the matchmaking takes so much longer now than before.
-
Connection should always be the priority
-
I knew it felt different. -blam!-ing slick bastards.
-
Bump. Crucible is a joke. I played 8 matches yesterday and first 7 were already losing matches.
-
Strong SBMM is aids on any game. It just punishes you for being good as you'll just get matched to better players and never get that feeling of being awesome, just a stressful mess.
-
I don't get how they can work out an overall skill level if my k/d 0.5 but my friends is 1.5, does it match us for his or my k/d?
-
Oh no, I can't mop the floor with scrubs anymore...
-
this is percicly why a lot of people quit trials
-
The only thing about Skill based matchmaking that is negative is that connection is suffering as it doesn't take priority. It's pretty funny how I see so many people complaining about "sweaty" games and getting matched up against sweaty players...that kinda means you're one of them! Why shouldn't you play someone your own skill? Why do you want to pub stomp noobs. Imagine if you got matched up against people twice as good as you all the time? That's how the noobs feel lol. Let them play someone their own skill and you play someone your own skill, it's only fair my dude.
-
Don't worry you'll drop in rank and play folks more your speed in no time.
