A Monument to All Your Sins:
Unknown Planet; Hours After the Fall of Cyprus
The narrow mountain path proved to be a difficult one to overcome, yet somehow this made it all the more worthwhile. The burn in his legs, the ache in his heart, made this path all the more real.
Beneath him, waves crashed up against the waves outcroppings that made the base of the mountain, and in the distance a massive tempest stormed, slowly making its way towards him. He needed to hurry. He was almost there.
Pulling out a carbon-vibranium dagger, the figure leaps twenty feet into the air, using the dagger to anchor himself to the side as he clambered up to the top. Already he felt rain on his face, though they may have been tears as well. Strangely, the top of the mountain was relatively flat, with a few assorted boulders located throughout the site, all surrounding a single, flat rock. Perfect.
As the hilt ignited the blade, the hums and whirrs of the device didn't seem quite right. It sounded isolated, lonely, and desperate. When the rain connected with the blade, it sizzled and died away, and the sword burned bright against the gathering fog. He raised the sword above the stone, and closed his eyes,
This is for my fallen brothers,
This is for the promises that I have left unfulfilled,
This is for the life that I would have given for them, and the lives that they saved,
This is a testament to their bravery, perseverance, and righteousness,
And above all, a monument to all their sins.
The blade continued to sizzle and crackle as it crept through the stone, blazing against coming storm. Matthew Hallwinter knew that it would continue to burn, though. This was more than a memory: this was an embodiment of who, and what his friends were, even in their final moments.
Unstoppable 'till the end.
