Go to this post instead! It's the new, and updated version of this one. https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/185273869/0/0
So this was my comment in another thread posted by Lost Sols and it definitely needs some attention (along with Sol's post). Here's the link for his post before we start: https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/184522818/0/0
So for those of you that don't want to read Sol's post, the gist of it was pertaining to Bungie's nerfing/buffing tactics (mainly about nerfing though), and how all they are doing is effectively creating more of an imbalance with all of the new metas and "must have weapons" each update brings. And Cozmo decided to comment on this post. His comment was;

It's got to be painful to accept, but it's time for you to acknowledge that the attempts at "balancing" this game have done less to even out gameplay as they have forced a constant rotation of "must use" weapons.
There will always be weapons that rise to the top of popularity with the Community in a game like Destiny. The Sandbox team will continue to make changes to keep the game fresh. Some changes will be popular, some will not. We welcome you to share your thoughts here on which ones you like and don't like.
It's time to make this right and the only way to achieve that at this point is to reset weapons to pre-1.1.1 and start over.
If you remember pre 1.1.1 everyone was using Suros Regime. Unless you didn't have it and were using a different Auto Rifle. A lot of players considered it a "must use." I had a lot of fun with my Suros, but personally think playing a meta where it was mostly being used for the last 11 months would get pretty stale.
Destiny will continue to evolve. I don't believe the team would ever just roll back to old patches, but they will continue to try to change things up for the better.
And now, logic takes play in the equation;
Then why not nerf just that ONE op gun? Why classify a whole class of weapons as broken, when it's literally only one or two out of that class? Fix the guns that NEED it and leave the rest alone. Does it not occur to anyone at Bungie that it's far from a good thing that a whole game weapon rebalance is "needed" every couple of months? This is the ONLY game I've ever played that needs to constantly tweak every single weapon every few weeks.
The way that this all could have been avoided is by nerfing only the SUROS and only that (not every single auto rifle to the point of where they were all unusable) when it was outgunning every other weapon back at launch. Starting up this habit of nerfing/buffing literally every single weapon in the game with every update is just flat out stupid. Tell John W. to actually sit down and do his homework. Fix only the guns that need it, instead of slapping generic nerf/buff values across every weapon. I have no idea how you guys at Bungie haven't realized it yet, but a "system" like that is obviously only going to mess things up more because that way you're potentially nerfing or buffing weapons that didn't need it at all. Focus on small weapon tuning (tweaking only the few weapons that are truly op) instead of full game changes. I guarantee if you guys start doing this, like most sensible developers do, then you will find that balance will come a lot faster.
If Bungie had just gotten that right the first time, then there would most likely be balance in the game. Instead, you guys tweak EVERY weapon in the game with EVERY weapon update with generic damage increases/decreases. That's down right stupid and lazy.
Cozmo, I know you're not the one to blame for this ridiculous way of development, but when you make such close minded posts like this, that's when I get pissed at you. You're job when you got hired at Bungie was to communicate with us and relay our feedback to the higher ups at Bungie, not to tell us that we're straight up wrong and basically that our anger with the game management and our ideas on how to fix it is wrong as well. When you got hired, I had hope that just maybe things would start to change. And the only thing that has changed is how you treat us. You guys have some serious problems to fix and if you don't get them sorted out soon then there will be no community for you to tell they're wrong.
At first, TTK was very fun and seemed very different from what we were used to in year one. The loot system seemed on point, and the gameplay was flat out fun. Now that we're well into this release, however, it's very clear that nearly nothing has changed. We were promised that forever 29 was a thing of the past. But it's very apparent now that it's worse than ever. When running the raid and earning the same piece of gear four weeks in a row, or just getting gear that's far under leveled from what you currently have equipped for weeks on end, it's obvious that nothing has changed.
And trials? Oh boy. That's even worse. I play trials every weekend. But unlike year one, it's not for the lighthouse anymore. It's because it's the only game type of pvp that's actually fun. You cannot earn 310+ armor from trials anymore. Why the hell is that? And when you do get to the lighthouse, you'll be very disappointed to receive a 311 hand cannon nearly EVERY TIME. What happened to when end game drops were guaranteed to help you out in some way? When they were guaranteed to drop at the highest level to reward you for all of your hard work and grinding to receive it? Now though? We grind and grind and grind only to get slapped in the face by the lowest light level available for that drop. And not to mention the god awful chances of getting an exotic from that lighthouse chest. In year one, I got an exotic nearly every time I opened that chest. In year two, I've seen one exotic out of all of the times I've gone flawless on every character each week. And they apparently can drop up to 320, but it's funny because mine was still only a 310. Why is it that trials is literally the only way currently to (potentially, but most likely not) earn a 320 exotic. Why is there no way for pve players? It's ridiculous.
Moral of the story; don't tell us we're wrong about our concerns for the game with no real data to back you up. You used to be on our side. Now you're on the side where the money is. Should've seen it coming.
Edit: One thing I forgot to mention that has always pissed me off is the fact that half of the weapon nerfs that have been pushed to the game haven't even been based on a weapons actual dps, but rather how much that weapon/weapon type is used (the main reason why auto rifles got nerfed into the ground in year one). I know I'm not alone in saying that it is down right RETARDED to nerf a weapon class just because people use that class more than the others.
Edit #2: I would like to make it clear, and also apologize, for making it seem as if I was attacking Cozmo. I know Cozmo is not the one to blame, and I know Cozmo is not doing his job just for the money. It was wrong of me to say such things and I am sorry. But, the reason why this post was made is because Cozmo is the community manager and needs to conduct himself in such a way. I am not sure if he was truly telling the community that we are wrong, but that is how it comes off. Cozmo, all I ask of you is to make it clear that you're trying to work with us, and not just telling us our opinions are invalid (and possibly tell Jon W. to read this post and the comments).
That being said, I have received a crazy amount of not just positive feedback, but constructive criticism on why my post doesn't click with certain people and I couldn't thank you guys more. Many of the people who are commenting their opinions that oppose this post, are met with people who support my post, but not in the typical way of yelling and argument of this community. But with level-headed conversations about why they agree with my post. I want to thank most of you for being such chill guardians! Please, keep your posts level-headed and name calling free and you will be met with the same response.
Edit #3: I want to make this clear; I am not associated with Lost Sols in any way, nor do I "ride his dick". I disagree with lots of things he says, but agree with lots as well. This post, however, was not meant to be about me agreeing with Lost Sols. It was meant to point out that Bungie knows exactly what they're doing when they destroy whole weapon classes with their ludicrous nerfs. TO MAKE IT CLEAR. I don't think we should go back to Pre-1.1.1, but I do think what could have fixed all of the balance problems we have now would have been to nerf just the Suros back in Pre-1.1.1, and the few other problematic weapons. But nerfing the whole class in the name of one or two was what messed everything up, and is what is still messing everything up.
Also, FOR ALL YOU PEOPLE WHO THINK I DON'T KNOW WHAT BALANCE IS; I do think the balance of the game is decent right now, at least better than it's been since the autos took their brutal nerf. But this post was to make a point that we cannot continue with full class nerfs if we want this balance to last. Otherwise, we will end up with balance like we had when the autos got nerfed and the Thorn reigned for 8 long, awful months.

Ok - old
Moral of the story; don't tell us we're wrong about our concerns for the game with no real data to back you up.
I never said you were wrong about concerns with the game, or wrong for being upset. We know there are always things we can improve. Sols was not wrong for asking for balance changes to move back to pre-1.1.1, that is a perfectly valid opinion to have. I talked about Suros being considered a "must have" by many in that era and the fact a lot of players where using ARs due to how effective they were. A lot of players agreed with this and replied that only Suros should have been nerfed. Which is a fair point. A lot of players would like us to leave the sandbox alone forever, while others are always asking for changes. Neither are wrong, they just have different opinions. -
Lost Sols and his friend JStevewhatshisname are complete muppets.

Cozmo is an idiot just like every other dumbass that works at Bungie.

Holy wall of text! Show of hands for anyone who actually read more than a sentence or two before scrolling for 15 minutes to get to the comments.

Edited by FreakingElite09: 1/7/2016 5:46:11 AMChanging stuff to keep it interesting is back firing for my part. I dont bother striving for weapons now because i know they wont last. Maybe i like having that one weapon that i want to center my loadout around (ie The Last Word). And i dont want to alter it. Thats a legitimate play style too. Thats a player story too. I like other guns for sure, But as it stands, i dont care to have them forced upon me by taking away guns i like best through constant nerfing or leaving them in past. It doesnt keep the game fresh, it keeps the game lacking in variety actually.

Edited by cbrstar: 1/7/2016 2:42:12 PMDestiny's WP balance is only going to get worse and worse, hence why I still haven't bought TTK... It sucks to to be playing in a sandbox, just to keep getting your sand castle kicked down by a bully.

Edited by Der Sheff: 1/6/2016 8:43:21 PMThanks for reminding me why I muted Lost Sols. That guy doesn't have a flippin clue, but neither does the majority of people that post. If you want to glimpse in to weapon balance, click on the link below. https://guardian.gg/en/weapon-stats?platform=1&start=2016-01-01&end=2016-01-05&mode=10&activity=0 The only weapon that really stands out is MIDA, but that doesn't really seem like a huge deal. Another point that was made in that interview was something to the affect of having to equip a particular weapon to win. I honestly don't feel like you do, at least not like when Pulse Rifles dominated, or TLW / Thorn, or Suros / Mythoclast, or Shotguns at any point in Y1. Nothing really appears to cross that line. I personally use Appellant III, Plan C and The Smolder and do just fine. That would never have happened prior to 2.1.0. NEVER.

Does anyone remember bungie in halo 2/3 days? "7 steps to world domination"??? What happens every time they do a weapon balancing? EVERYONE uses the guns that they balance favorably. It used to be suros, then last word, then red death, now mida. They are controlling the actions of those who play the game by making the guns they want us to use OP and the ones they don't broken. I've seen it from the beginning. I might suck at crucible, but I'm no pawn.
-
I think stronger gear customization options for players would lessen the impact of 'Bungie Balance' by empowering players to create their own viable gear with enough effort regardless of the current state of the 'meta.'
-
That was a hell of a long post, I am surprised you don't already understand what's going on here and has been for some time. To summarize very quickly. New metas = longer playing time (getting and leveling new weapons, testing each variation for our preference). Rotating the meta through supposed "balancing" = we play longer and the process repeats itself every few months. This is done to drag out the current game for as long as possible until number drop so low they have to release some actual DLC but by that time it's usually been long enough that they can dress it up as 'HUGE NEW EXPANSION' and charge us another £50

Solution to your problem: Stop playing Destiny, like the other 90-odd% of people who were misled into spending money on this blatant cash grab. And seriously, do the world a but if good and invest your brainpower into something more meaningful

Edited by ironBill: 1/6/2016 5:49:59 PMOkay, let me lead with "I in no way agree with Cozmo on this topic". Next, he told you the answer to most of your queries in this line:
The Sandbox team will continue to make changes to keep the game fresh.
This means the sweeping archetype changes are intentional, not accidental. They are forcing a top-gun environment on you to force you to switch guns. It's that simple. Once you realize this, you understand talking to Bungie about weapons' balance is an utter waste of time.
-
The problem isn't the weapons, it's the players. People refuse to accept that they got beat, so they rationalize it by saying the weapon the other guy used is OP, the other guy is cheating, lag, or something else they can use as an excuse. From the beginning I said there was no point it nerfs, because all that will do is invite those people to cry about the next gun. Even if you nerf a single gun versus a class of weapons, people will still complain. That is the true constant: people will complain. There's no point in "fixing" something because then they will complain about whatever they think is next, until everything has been nerfed. Then it will all start over.

This was good for the laughs

Edited by Red Right Hand: 1/10/2016 12:53:00 PMSome of the premises of your whole argument are flawed. For instance, the auto-rifle nerf that hit during the whole SUROS meta hit all auto for a reason: they were ALL outperforming scouts, pulses and some, like the infamous SUROS, even outgunned snipers!!! Anyone else remember the Shadow Price?!? Just nerfing the SUROS would have solved nothing. Also, comparing Destiny to any other shooter is clumsy at best, simply because no other shooter is quite like Destiny. Weapons balancing poses some unique challenges here for a number of reasons: the sheer number of guns, the balance between PvE and PvP, the constant power scaling... Like it or not, no other game out there brings the same combination of features/issues to the table. So, again, dissing Destiny for it's balancing policies is a bit hypocritical. So, yeah, long story short: some of your conclusions are based on flawed logic.
-
Although your logic of fixing/nerfing ONLY the weapons that need it makes sense...the problem with balancing is deeper than just weapons. Lack of dedicated servers. The lag in pvp and even pve is very evident and very well documented and very real. This is why most people only spend only 15% of their time in pvp. Until this issue is addressed, people will seek to use OP weapons to help them compensate for the lag. We all do...or did. Buff other similar weapons to the same level. Auto rifle exotics...similar time to kill. Fusion rifle exotics...similar ttk, etc etc. Inclement weather, smaller and fast paced maps that favor certain weapons....Yada yada, yada... It's all been said before...but by far the biggest problem with weapon balancing IS bungie. They have their heads up their ass so far they CAN'T HEAR US. They don't know what they're doing. It's evident they don't know how to balance and they keep ignoring our ideas. So many complaints on weapon balance even after they claim they balance but LIE about the numbers. It's evident they don't know how to separate pvp from pve nerfs. It's evident that bungie is incapable of understanding that it's the underlying issues and design flaws (rng) that make this whole game unbalanced. Its fairly evedent that over the last year and a half, they still ignore our feedback or are incapable of implementing such changes and that destiny is still a beta...It's evident they are no longer worth my money or yours.
-
they will never stop nerfing weapons until the day nobody plays destiny...period. I do believe its in their DNA and that will never change. The people from sandbox will be out of a job...we don't want anyone losing their jobs now do we....but one thing that can and should change is the loot drops level, be it raid weapon/armor drops, purple, blue, green, pink, etc engrams....if I'm light level above 310 or 319 to be precise, I shouldn't be getting drops below 300 light level, period. It should be 300/310 and above...I wouldn't even mind getting the same shit day in day out as long its a higher level armor/weapon so I can infuse it to others. Besides the fun side of the game, our main objective has always been to get to the highest light level possible...so, each time we play the game there is progress.. but to give drops below our current light level is a bit retarded...feels like every step forward is two step backwards...so, I guess the question here is, is this something you can fix or just don't want to...
-
-blam!- bungie. Stupid ass dumb shits
-
Lol oh man. The cry babies here are just hilarious. Care to report this post too?
-
Cozmo has had a shithead attitude towards the people wanting balance lately. I wonder if it's because his primary weapon and Special weapon abuse the meta...
-
I'm really not that worried about weapons as classes like sun breaker getting it, as someone else said, ppl are using the new classes instead of the old ones cuz...their NEW duh!! Storm callers are just as op as sun breakers were, and if nothing else PLEASE LEAVE PVE ALONE!!!
-
Edited by Emurinus: 1/7/2016 10:27:40 PMAs flawed as this sounds, I'm picking the lesser of two evils here. This one is easier to work off of.
-
Quit playing the this POS game...Quit logging in...Bungie has pretty much told you how they feel about you. The only way to get what you want is to affect their bottom line. Most certainly don't pre order their next promise as you'll just keep it going. Wait and see what they offer next time before you buy.
-
what he is really saying is that there will never be true balance .every gun gets a turn to shine. meaning some guns are purposely left better then rotated.
-
You are 100% right. Pre 1.1.1 patch would be brilliant. Bump for likes
-
Edited by RaveEX: 1/7/2016 10:07:06 PMI believe that the meta is more balanced than ever before. Sure the Mida is popular, but it's no where near as strong as Suros, Thorn, TLW or Red Death in their prime. This leaves a lot more room for other weapons to be viable in the cruicible, and they are. I see all weapon types in one cruicible match almost every time I feel like playing pvp, unlike when AR's, HC's, or PR'S dominated our primary weapons. I don't even have the Mida, and I actually don't feel like I'll ever need it to be competitive.
