Today we were given 'The Law Of The Jungle,' a live-action Trailer for Destiny. I have watched it well over a dozen times now. In it, the narrator says the following: [quote]Now this is the law of the jungle, as old and as true as the sky, the wolf that shall keep it may prosper, but the wolf that shall break it must die. As the creeper that girdles the tree trunk, the law runneth forward and back; For the strength of the pack is the wolf, and the strength of the wolf is the pack.[/quote] Now after this, I could not help but look up the Law of the Jungle. I found this is only part of a longer section. The rest of the Law of the Jungle is as follows according to Wikipedia: [quote]Wash daily from nose tip to tail tip; drink deeply, but never too deep; And remember the night is for hunting and forget not the day is for sleep. The jackal may follow the tiger, but, cub, when thy whiskers are grown, Remember the wolf is a hunter—go forth and get food of thy own.[/quote][quote] Keep peace with the lords of the jungle, the tiger, the panther, the bear; And trouble not Hathi the Silent, and mock not the boar in his lair. When pack meets with pack in the jungle, and neither will go from the trail, Lie down till the leaders have spoken; it may be fair words shall prevail.[/quote] [quote] When ye fight with a wolf of the pack ye must fight him alone and afar, Lest others take part in the quarrel and the pack is diminished by war. [/quote]There are five more stanzas to it, as you can see above. I cannot help but wonder if this means this is but the first of three or four trailers we shall receive. So let's look into the rest of this. For no reason other than the first trailer used two stanzas, I shall just assume others would use two and maybe a fourth for the finale. What strikes me in this part is how it addresses the 'cub,' which while it does follow how it is used in the actual Jungle Book, in the narrator here the old man is addressing someone younger- calling him his son (which could be taken literally or as a name for someone younger). This makes me think even more there may be more parts. We know enemies can have their base in animal anatomy, so perhaps the Tiger, Panther, and Bear represent enemy factions or races? Perhaps Hathi the Silent is the ever watchful Traveler, wise and above us all- never speaking or relenting its secrets to us. [quote]When ye fight with a wolf of the pack ye must fight him alone and afar, Lest others take part in the quarrel and the pack is diminished by war. [/quote]Finally, we are brought back to the wolf. Could this reference a sort of civil war in the Last City, perhaps? Maybe while their are aliens we must face, threats from within are equally dangerous. In-fighting weakens our pack, our people, and the enemy must be fought outside the city to prevent this. Just random speculation. Still, I find the possibilities very interesting. This could mean more trailers and provide an insight into the world of Destiny. Thoughts?
