"buff a shotgun?! What are you nuts?
Hold yer horses bud because while talking to friends and family about hunting soon it dawned on me.
the chaperone makes no sense
Firstly, this shotgun should not be out ranged by conspiracy theory D with range finder because of what makes the chaperone the chaperone.
precision slugs
So what am I talking about? Well this shotgun should have insane impact due to slugs putting boars on their ass let alone a guardian. A slug itself in a modern 12 gauge shotgun is a big metal ball roughly the size of a musket ball. However unlike normal slugs and musket balls the chaperone claims to shoot precision slugs. This means the chaperone should not only have a crazy impact but a range that mimics a precision slug. This shotgun needs to out range any shotgun regardless of perks because compared to buck shot, a precision slug is, guess what, more precise
A precision slug is a connular hunk of metal still in good comparison to a musket round or an early rifle shot, only because shotguns lack grooves what makes it accurate is the slug itself has grooves in it. This means that this shotgun needs to compete with hand cannons that have bad range to mediocre range, all side arms, to a degree fusion rifles, and as stated before, have higher impact and range than any other shotgun, invective included.
"but guardians have stronger armor than a slug could dent" okay, so buckshot should give them a tickle. I can imagine as tech gets better slugs should also become better shells or else why would this shotgun even exist in the destiny universe.
So how do you balance this shotgun with crazy impact and the best range of any shotgun. 2 things.
1. Recoil needs to be painfully jerky. A slug fired out of a shotgun hurts. No matter what you're firing out of, slugs kick like a mule and should do the same in destiny. Make it random and make it hard to make follow up shots because if crazy recoil.
2. The slowest fire rate of any shotgun. Yes it has a lever action but any shotgun firing slugs leaves even the most experienced shotgun shooters reeling a little bit. States earlier it should kick like a mule meaning your guardian shouldn't be able to make a follow up shot for a while, giving the player more incentive to hit the target instead of ball parking. This also wouldn't be a run and gun shotgun because run and gun shotguns usually have the ability for a follow up shot if needed. Using this shotgun means you're going all or nothing. Missing means you have a better chance of pulling out a primary to save your ass.
If we are going to have a shotgun shooting slugs in destiny, we should make it feel like a slug in destiny, and not some pansy short range scout rifle that can't even hold its own against a shotgun with or without range finder.
Edit 1: wow the first comment wasn't telling me im a moron for this. Let's get this going guys!
