A New Quest Is Available!
An Unlikely Ally
An urgent Distress Call has made its way to the Axion on an open bandwidth. The format is clearly out of date, and the message displays as months old, with a displayed margin of error of several years.
Alright, maggots, listen up. I've received instructions from an anonymous benefactor within your group to whip your OP asses down a couple notches and teach you what it means to be an oldie. So that's exactly what I'm gonna fucкing do. No more invincibility jack-of-all-trades bullshit. I will count every bullet, trick, and tool you use, and I will make you feel every consequence of your actions.
You want my treasure? I'm gonna make you sing for it, like a boy's choir with their nuts in a vice grip. And if a single one of you sings off key, I'm gonna make sure you never sing again.
Correction: As stated in the OP Everyone here was OP because it was PvE Although due to recent events, it flipped on us Few of us here know when to limit ourselves and make sure we don't go over the line So, this should and shouldn't apply to all of us

Phantom answers the message and registers
-
The message contains a .JPEG, a .EXE, and a three letter text bit. >SOS
-
He doesn't open the file, but runs it through a FireWall reader This thing must be ancient, if it still uses .EXE viruses.
-
The firewall fails in most of the applied areas, and turns up clean in all others. The EXE file is ancient and almost completely incompatible with the ship's software. You're only able to pull up a single chunk of text... QuarantineBypass.152737_Restricted.
-
The hell? He holds up a HoloPad and opens the message
-
The Holopad proves useless, the formatting too old to work.
-
Goddamn this old tech... He downloads the message and converts it to binary to read it
-
The conversion from the Terminal to the Holopad, once again, fails.
-
Sigh... He uploads it to his Genesis Systems, in order to read the binary
-
It continues to fail on all aspects. A public terminal seems to be the only option.
-
He sends it to a Terminal disconnected form the Public Mainframe of the Ship Is this even relevant anymore? If can't even be read by HoloPads? He listens to it
-
There's no audio, only a three-letter text-only message, a .JPEG, and the .EXE file.
-
He opens them, rubbing his temples
-
The .EXE completely refuses to open, while the .JPEG seems to be a set of coordinates displayed in a criminal-esque set of magazine trimmings. Said coordinates lead to a hypothetical space well beyond the mapped universe, whose nearest mapped neighbor is a star cluster several billion light years away from it. Not accounting for anything other than distance and speed, the Axion could make the journey in about two days. The text file is simple. Three little letters. >SOS
-
Edited by Bardo XCIX: 1/2/2016 5:31:16 AMI don't have time for this... Jace walks in at, drinking coffee "What you doing there? Looking at a ancient SOS message... Wait. You aren't occupied with anything at the moment, right Jace? "No...... Not recently. Good. Then you can investigate, right? Good. Phantom leaves before Jace can respond "Wait! Goddammit."
-
He just stares at the Terminal So this came from outside our Universe, but is so ancient it isn't compatible with our Tech. Yeah, Okay.
-
But his mind is like a computer He can read the binary of it
*A slightly hungover Shadow staggers down an abandoned hallway when her com link beeps* "Huh? Stupid thing..." *She types on it a bit, decoding the signal* "Huh. Old Earth tech. 20th century or so. Now that's old." *She decrypts it and opens the file, a holographic window opening in front of her* "Show me the money..."
-
The message contains a .JPEG, a .EXE, and a three letter text bit. >SOS
-
"SOS. Old Morse code. Not good news." *She opens the image*
-
It's a set of coordinates, displayed in a criminal-esque magazine clippings style. Said coordinates seem to lead to a hypothetical spot whose nearest mapped star cluster lies billions of light years away from it. Not accounting for repairs, cool downs, or rotating shifts, the Axion could probably make the journey in two days, assuming it went full hyperdrive.
-
*Shadow grins* "Not a problem for me..." *She staggers slightly as she walks down the hallway, then collapses against the wall. But before she hits it she seems to melt into the darkness of the hallway*
