Gunsmith Field Test
"Banshee has teamed up with Lord Shaxx to expand his weapon field testing program. Use various weapons in Crucible zones and test them against other Guardians. Being able to adapt to any gear will serve as a good test for your effectiveness as a Guardian"
MODE PHILOSOPHY
- Reward flexibility in using various weapons in different situations.
- Give players that "new loot" feeling to keep gameplay exciting and addictive.
- Draw combat into objective hotspots, necessitated by the need of more ammo and desire for new weapons.
- Offer a risk/reward proposition - higher rarity guns are better but are less frequent and more highly coveted.
- Intensify combat as time goes on by offering better quality weapons as matches go on.
RULES
More or less played with Clash rules and scoring.
- First team to hit X score wins OR
- Team with highest score at end of match time wins.
HOW IT'S PLAYED
When you play this mode, all of your weapons get "left at the door" so to speak.(All other gear is used) Your weapons still appear in your inventory as equipped, but are not used in the match.
When you spawn in you have no weapons, and scattered throughout the map are several White Loot Crates (including one right in front of your spawn). Going up to one and holding INTERACT will give you and auto-equip a Common-Rarity, Field Test item from Banshee.
After a short period of time, some blue crates will appear randomly throughout the map. Going to one will award you with a random Rare weapon (from any loot pool - generic, vanguard, crucible, etc.)
After a bit longer a few purple crates will appear in random locations. Going to one will award you with a random Legendary weapon (any loot set)
In the middle of the match 3 yellow crates will appear randomly throughout the map. Getting to one will award you a random Exotic weapon.
WEAPON CRATE INFO
Common Crates (White)
- Another player opening a Common Crate does not prevent other players from doing the same
- When you open a Common Crate yourself, a 60 second cooldown is placed on all other Common Crates before you can open up a new one.
Rare Crates (Blue)
- Another player opening a Rare crate depletes it for all other players, but is replenished in 5 seconds
- When you open a Rare Crate yourself, a 2 minute cooldown is placed on all other RareCrates before you can open up a new one.
Legendary Crates (Purple)
- Another player opening a Legendary crate depletes it for all other players, but is replenished in 10 seconds
- When you open a Legendary Crate yourself, a 4 minute cooldown is placed on all other Legendary Crates before you can open up a new one.
Exotic Crates (Yellow)
- Another player opening an Exotic crate depletes it permanently for all other players. These crates are never replenished.
OTHER NOTES
- Weapon Type (Primary, Special, Heavy) is random, but the odds of getting a Primary are higher, followed by Special and Heavy respectively.
- If you get a duplicate in a slot (ie. another primary when you already have a primary) you use the newer primary instead with replenished ammo and discard the old weapon.
- The ammo you get from the crate is all you get for that weapon. You will need to go to another crate to replace your weapon with a new one, and get more ammo that way.
- When you die, you do not lose any ammo for your weapons, but you also do not get any more back.
- Perks on weapons are random, and lets say for arguments sake, are locked (no choice perks are available/changeable)
- On Weapon Pickup, the weapon, as well as the perks in it are listed on your screen, so you don't need to go into a menu to see what you got.
- Weapons can be from any Year, Expansion, or Set, or Loot Table.
- You do not get to permanently keep any of the weapons you picked up in the match
REWARDS
- Both Crucible and Gunsmith reputation would be awarded (varying slightly based on if you Win or Lose)
- "No Match End Loot" would not be an option. Instead if you rolled for nothing for loot, you at least get Weapon Parts instead.
- XP earned in match will apply to your normally equipped weapons per usual, even though they are not used in the match.
I'd love to hear your thoughts!

I think this would be perfect if we left it at all just common weapons, be it primary, special or heavy. I think anything above would possibly be too overwhelming to the people who don't have said higher tier gun. It'd be a lot of fun, and all down to skill with the random common guns found.

*grabs exotic crate Dreg's promise

I just want to be able to spectate friends matches...
-
I'd like to see a mode where you spawned in with a different gun every respawn. Everyone should start with a sidearm, and then given a random primary every time they die, no shotguns, no snipers. I think it sounds nice.
-
I'd like to see a mode where your weapons are completely switched over time. like every 30 seconds: Everyone starts out with a random rare primary, then 30 seconds later, it randomizes: one person might get a rare sniper, while another might get a rare machine gun. rolls and weapon classes are random, only rare weapons are cycled, and you can only use one weapon at a time. the only time you switch weapons is that every 30 second switch. you get half the maximum ammo for that weapon upon switching to it, and don't lose any ammo when you die, including heavy. no supers, grenades and special melee are used. so is double jump. armor is set to the normal, starting armor with no perks. you also don't get any more ammo in any way until you switch weapons again, so while rockets will win you most engagements, you normally only get 3 every switch. just want a random mode like this added. free-for all or 3v3, no 6v6.

Sounds great.

Love this. Maybe they'll use this idea.
-
I like it a lot! Keep up the good work.

This sounds pretty cool. Bump
-
Great ideas Unfortunately this won't be implemented in the game we have now
-
Great ideas bro!
-
I like it but too complicated for them to implement this late in the game's lifecycle A mode where they lock out equipping anything but whatever the gunsmith is selling that week is probably more realistic.

Edited by Dead-Sync: 1/1/2016 2:23:30 AMReally love hearing all of the enthusiasm for the mode idea folks! I'm gonna update the original post to give it a bit more love for formatting and updating on discussion. Maybe if we keep it going, we can grab Bungie's eye and see something similar to it in the future so we can all play it one day! Thanks and keep up the conversation!

This sounds awesome! I'd love to play something like this! I remember when the test weapons first came out, Crucible was super fun for a couple of hours! Everything looks fine and balanced, so, your move Bungie.
-
Sounds great, I for sure would play it

Edited by o HULK SMASH o: 1/1/2016 1:48:47 AMLike gun game in bo2. yes I like this idea. So rumble and clash confirmed cuz that is easy to play with these kind of rules. Nice one. Happy new year ;) Edit: what about "golden age clash" all weapons ever existed are pre-nerf. Like they were when they came out. Would be funny to see what is really op....??!!!! ;)

Black ops gun game?
-
The only thing Id change is that your weapon upgrades on completing whatever random quest it has on it. 3 kills to go blue for example, 3 headshots to go legendary, 5 multikills to go exotic, etc Itd more or less be a tournament ladder with the best rising to the top to face each other. Maybe even after so many deaths you downgrade one level

Gun game +1
-
I feel like half of this game mode would be taken up by me waiting for me gun to render, or just giving up on life and punching everyone. I still love it tho. Bump if you agree

I believe this would be an excellent field test for all manor of weapons and perks for Bungie to seriously look at and see how people use them. I like the concept but I feel a little bit of tweaking is in order. 1. I'd avoid using the Exotic tier crates unless it's the very last stretch of the match so it's less reliant on crutch weapons 2. I think there should be something where you could pick what types of weapons would be more likely to drop (eg. You can choose to preferably have scout rifles, shotguns, and machine guns as your drop and while they are not guaranteed they will drop more than the others) 3. Since its all weapons from all expansions this will be a slight problem. (Eg people may like a blue hand cannon from HoW but it's not usable or obtainable anymore so it be a waste UNLESS Bungie brings all weapons up which is a no...) 4. This is in Crucible so light doesn't matter? If so then good 5. I feel Gunsmith rep should be added on a loss but in a smaller degree 6. Make it to where Bungie will add new and insane weapons types (such as new types like how the Sleeper Stimulant was) for is to try so they can truly test it. 7. Have a PvE death battle Royale version like PoE where this also applies so Bungie can further study weapons (and so those who suck at PvP like me [;-;] will be able to help as well) Otherwise this needs to happen
-
should try it for a week so people can see how boring real balance with a long ttk is

DO THIS BUNGIE NOW!!!!!
