Lauren visited Dillon at the medic's office. "How are the injuries?" "We had to remove four melted iron rods from him. Two were in his abdomen. Don't worry, Dillon survived the surgery and should be awake in a days time." the frame gave Lauren a holo-tablet showing all the data collected from the operation. She gave a deep sigh of relief. "Thank you." The frame looked to the sleeping man. "Was Dillon a Defender?" "Yes.?." Lauren became nervous at the question. "He carries his title proudly..." the frame continued. Lauren's muscles loosened up. A smile broke across her face. "Yes.. yes he does..." Lauren kissed his forehead and left the room. The next morning, Lauren returned to the office. Dillon was sitting up, looking around, and enjoying a nice cup of coffee as he watched the morning news. A frame opened the door and let Lauren in. "Good morning. How do you feel?" Dillon put down the mug. "I feel better. Ready to get back to work, that's for sure." "Speaking of 'work', someone, or some people, want to see you." Lauren stepped outside and waved her hand signaling to come in. A mother holding her daughter came in. At first she was cheerful and smiling. "Thank you for saving Lucy..." but as she spoke, her demeanor turned grim. "We were separated in the crowd rushing for the City, then the Fallen attacked, and, I thought we were going to lose her..." the woman knelt down and laid her head on the bed frame. She soon started to cry at the thought of losing her child. Dillon placed his hand on her shoulder. "Ma'am, I am just doing my job. We all are." Dillon looked to Lucy, who was laying her head on her mother's shoulder. "Did you know you saved me?" Lucy perked up just a little. "I.. did?" "Yes. Those baddies could've walked around and got me from behind. You.. told me.. where they were." Lucy smiled as Dillon rubbed her head. "Mommy, did you hear that? I saved a titan!" "Yes you did." the mother stood up and looked back to Dillon. "Thank you..." "No problem." Dillon smiled as he waved to Lucy, who waved back. When the visitors walked out of the room, Dillon climbed out of bed. "You would make a great father." Lauren was smiling at the display she just witnessed. "You think so?" Dillon put on his boots, then willed his armor on. Dillon and Lauren went back to their training facility. "Warlocks must concentrate to tap into the void. Maybe Titans use adrenaline and strength to grasp void and shape it into your image. Let's try that." Lauren placed her weapons on the table. Dillon stood in the open floor and shook his arms. A simulation appeared around him. It was acting like a Fallen attack! Dillon took an auto rifle that went along with the simulation and 'shot' the incoming enemy! "This isn't ward training... this is combat training!" "Just wait, Dillon!" cried Lauren. As the exercise continued, several dozens of Fallen surrounded Dillon. If any 'shot' him, he would become temporarily paralyzed! The previous five minutes of training built up his adrenaline. Dillon was bearing his teeth and taking deep breaths! He threw his arms out and formed a ward of dawn! This time he was able to maintain it under enemy fire, but it didn't last long! Once again, the ward folded in on itself. Dillon sat close to a wall and slowly laid his head back. "D***it!" "You almost got it. We'll keep practicing; practice makes perfect." Lauren knelt down in front of him. She gave him a smile then walked to the computers. Dillon got back up as Lauren started up the simulation, but this time she joined Dillon. They 'fought' the enemy back for five minutes. At the end of the simulation, they were surrounded by Fallen. Dillon threw up his ward, but this time, Lauren placed her hands on Dillon's shoulders! The extra void coursing through him went through his arms, through the ward, and into the environment around them! The ward collapsed.
