Although I agree people should just walk away from the computer/device when cyber bullying is happening, there's 2 problems. 1. People don't realize they can just ignore it and leave, they think they have to justify them self to someone who's obviously trolling 2. You are in a sense protecting trolls by not encouraging what these people support, which is report and block method. Trust me- I used to deal with trolls ALL. THE. TIME. The best thing you can do to a troll is 1. Tell him/her you don't care, and show no emotion 2. Leave after you tell them that 3. Report and block/mute That way, you've done you're job- there is really nothing else you can do. But there is no excuse to be absolutely malicious to a random person you don't know. Even if it's as simple as walk away, there's another problem with that. The trolls just keep going. Nothing stops them. Even bans. Example: Let's say you get into some trouble at school and your parents don't like it, let's just say you started a fight. You punched first and called the other guy names. Then the other guy knocks you downs and injured you. Instead of disciplining their child for starting a fight, they sue the other kids parents. It's the same with cyber bullying/Harrasing. Yes you can walk away. But what goes in- comes out. When you are insulted everywhere you go, it's drain on the mind. You can or will or may be exposed to things you've never seen before. Know this: cyber bullying DOES exist. But we need to inform people that it should stop, and what to do when in a situation. There is no hurt in informing others who don't know what to do with a cyber bully. And I really don't think cyber bullying will be easy to stop unless you were to actually speak to them In real life. On the internet there are no consequences- kind of. But do spread the word and instruct people. And intervene on fights and arguments. It's the least you can do.
i used to deal with many trolls a year ago. They become so rampant, they made over 10 accounts and trolled on all of them. Some of them would make a new account, troll for half an hour, and deactivate their account. I'm glad it's over- sort of. I got in touch with admins via email and had them all banned. It's a lot of work because you have to provide evidence of their trolling.
