Upgrading
I am upgrading my grandson from a 360 to an Xbox One. Will the Taken King and other purchased content transfer over, or will I have to re-buy it for him?

He will have to buy the Taken King for Xbox one his stats and characters will transfer. The Taken King isn't part of the free upgrade program. Link:https://www.bungie.net/en/help/article/12122

Unless you purchased the digital version of the vanilla Destiny prior to January 15 2015, it will need to be repurchased. Currently TDB and HoW are eligible for a free upgrade to next generation consoles using the digital upgrade program.
