Did... Did I just snipe myself?
Last night I was lucky enough to join FiZzoR for some trials on his steam when this happened. At first I thought that I just traded with the other guy, then I saw the feed "BRUTALBREAKD0WN IS DOWN"... Did I snipe myself? How on earth did that even happen?
I'm not exactly sure what killed me, does anyone have any ideas?

A lot of people think that we just traded. There are two reasons why I don't think this is the case. Firstly, it doesn't give him the kill, it just said "BRUTALBREAKD0WN IS DOWN". Secondly, he was using the 1000 yard stare that everyone gets from the taken war quest which comes with firefly. If he killed me it would have had to have been with a headshot, which would have caused firefly to proc.
My current theory (although it still probably isn't completely correct) is that sniper bullets have more than one active frame in which they can deal damage. This explains why a ton of collateral sometimes just don't look right. Maybe lag extends this period or something. Either way I think that I sniped him, then strafed behind cover whilst the bullet still had active damage frames, during this time the bullet ricocheted off the box thing in front of me causing me to snipe myself. It's not a solid theory but so far it's the best thing that I can think off other than "I just died for no reason when I fired my gun"

That shot not only looks like it came from behind you, it had to have because it leaves a bullet hole mark on the crate. Lag does not leave bullet marks on objects in front of you when it looks like someone shot you through a wall.

When you got shot from behind that crate, that was clearly from the guy you shot first. I'm guessing lag played a big role in this, but I'm not sure how to explain it.

I am reminded of the scene in Oliver Stone's JFK where Kevin Costner's character is showing the Zapruder flim of JFK's assassination to the jury. "Back...and to the left. Back...and to the left." You were clearly sniped by the guardian on the grassy knoll.

2 RepliesNo. If you watch the video carefully you can see the other guy lift up his sniper to scope. You probably traded but it was so quick the game couldn't register him killing you but it did register your dying.

i watched the video on .25 speed and he shot you. the game must have just glitched out and didnt register him being the one to kill you.

No he killed you, it's been happening to me too, the 2.1 update has gotten glitchy when people trade kills like that

Same thing has happened to my friends a few times. If you get a trade, only one person gets a kill and he is "down"

Yup happened to me a few times too. I traded snipes with someone but my kill didn't count and it said the other guy killed himself....

Had this happen a few times. Sniped Simone only to get counter sniped and then robbed of my kill by their misadventure...

Maybe he had ricochet rounds on and it didn't register as his round when it killed you.. Or you sniped yourself. Pretty cool either way
