Lag Switch Vs Bad Connection
EDIT: I'd like to also point out that sometimes Destinys servers also are rather slow and poor. So sometimes it's not even someones fault if they have a bad connection if the server is being slow, there have been times when both teams or all the players are red bar and lagging everywhere. So what about then? As well... a friend pointed out that being a red bar also benefits you as you are able to get all these kills... not once has being a red bar ever helped me when my internet goes to hell and back, infact it always hinders me.
Hey look another one, I just love making these don't I? So I bring up the question Lag Switch Vs A Bad Connection, here is why I bring this up: A buddy of mine regularly plays PvP, and sometimes I join him (I don't like to sometimes cause he gets really loud and angry a lot at the lag...) Which brings up the point that he brought up that they are Lag Switching. Honestly until Destiny... I wasn't a big PvP player... I lived out in the middle of no where for most of my life with dial up speed connections cause the mountains and Internet don't mix. So... I asked him what Lag Switching is... and he told me it was people who mess with their router to interfere with the connection to the game so that they are behind slightly... and rack up a KD. I looked up online how to do it... seems to be a good number of ways how. However I then thought about my own crappy internet from when I was little... and how slow it was. Even now every so often my internet sucks and will make me lag in Destiny. (Roommate loves watching Netflix on her laptop.) So... what if it's not lag Switching? What if someone just has a shitty internet? Here is why I bring it up, as per Bungies rules: If someone is lag switching to win events, you are to report them, and Bungie staff will ban them. He reports players with bad connections in the blind chance that it is a lag switch. What if it's not though? What if they just have really shit connection to a potato for a router like myself sometimes, and then they are banned on false accusations? What do you think? Is it wrong to ban someone on the account they MIGHT be lag switching, and possibly hurting someone who just has really bad connections, or is it right just to be on the safe side to make PvP 'safer'? To put my own opinion out there...
No, I don't think it's fair. Because it could very well be a bad connection and that their internet is to slow. They could have very well have done nothing wrong. But sure I'll admit, seeing lag makes me upset and rage... but in the end it's just a game. I'll put the game down, and head outside for a bit and enjoy my day rather then be over upset about some lag that happened. Not the end of the world.
• Can't pick up heavy ammo when its up or unable to capture control points. Always report bad connections.

  • Like Jphn said people that aren't blinded by rage can easily spot the difference. I used to use lag switches in Socom 2 (in rooms designed just to piss about). From my perspective this is what happens. I 'flip the switch' and the game stands still, I run around doing what I want and then flip the switch back. The game would then quickly update with anything I did during my lag mode. For example my favourite thing to do would be to find someone, flip the switch, place proxy mines around them and then switch it back. The game would update and the player would teleport to their true location and then explode from my proxy mines. If I remained in lag mode too long I would get disconnected outright so this is why you can tell the difference. Switchers will stand till you'll drop dead and they will teleport across the map (to their new true location). Were real bad lag can mimic this with constant teleporting it won't be for the benefit of the lagger and you'll see them drop dead a few seconds later.

  • Your connection is bad. I made a report for bad connection. I did nothing wrong.

  • Just group all the bad connections and lag switchers together and not let them play against anyone else. Ever. Problem solved.

  • I think if players are "red bar" for a certain amount of time, they should be kicked from any pvp gameplay. It's honestly not fair even if you have just a bad connection. Banning them is a little much, but if you got booted out of the server after 1 min or so of being in the "red bar," I think that would solve a lot of frustration and bad gameplay.

    • Lag switching is usually much easier to see as opposed to just bad Internet. Lag switchers will usually lag out right when they're about to lose a fight, while people with bad Internet are just all over the place. Let's take Dark Souls, for example. I've had matches against people that were rubber banding the entire fight, and I've seen them glitch out in several spots. Lag switchers, by comparison, are much easier to see. They have fairly constant Internet, and not anything too bad is happening. Then suddenly, they'll stand perfectly still. Next thing I know, I'm being back stabbed, and then everything goes back to normal. Lag switchers don't lag out at inconvenient times for them, either. I've had matches against people that lose connection midway through a really good fight, where it is very even. I've seen people in TF2 freeze in midair because their connection was so bad. It is fairly easy to see if you pay attention, and you can also check their connection in many games. If they have really good connection yet are lagging a lot, it is potentially a lag switcher.

      • You do realize that having a constantly bad connection is also cheating. If you know you're connection is shit and is going to cause lag do t play pvp games. And companies have the option of reporting bad connections because they can tell the difference. If enough complaints come through them they look into it and they ban those that are lag switching or have constantly shit Internet and are ruining the game for the other players.
