How come throughout (American) history there have been several equal rights movements to give women equal treatment as men, such as having to register for selective services, but have always been shot down by the very "feminists" that were attempting to get equality in the first place?

Because feminists are not actually looking for equality. They seek to be SUPERIOR to men, even if they don't admit it, not to just equalize the playing field. Any man or woman can go and get any type of the same job for example. So since the playing field is equal, they want to change it again to be the opposite side of the scale, making women the 'backbone' of our society so to speak.
i am completely against all of this crap I just posted btw
What movements? When? I'm not American so I don't have a clue about these things. I'd discuss this if I knew about them. Perhaps you could tell me?
